Position Summary
Position operates Class A wheeled vehicles and light equipment (backhoe, skid steer, mini excavator) in support of the landfill and wastewater operations. Work of this class involves no supervisory duties or responsibilities.
Position Responsibilities
1. Operates Class A wheeled vehicles such as tractor trailers in on- and off-road applications.
2. Performs operator-level maintenance on assigned vehicles and equipment; prepares records of vehicle and equipment condition and use.
Minimum Qualification Requirements
Education
Completion of 8th grade and the ability to read, write, and follow instructions. High School Diploma or G.E.D. preferred.
Experience
Minimum of one (1) years’ experience in commercial motor vehicle operation.
Certificate(s) and/or License(s)
Possession of a valid Class A Commercial Driver’s License (CDL).
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
1. Ability to perform operator-level maintenance on and operate Class A and B wheeled vehicles and light equipment in both on- and off-road applications.
2. Ability to understand and follow written and verbal instructions.
3. Ability to communicate ideas clearly, both orally and in writing; ability to prepare accurate records and reports.
4. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships. Ability to work as a member of a team.
Miscellaneous Position Information
Working Conditions & Physical Requirements
This role involves moderate strenuous effort, such as lifting and handling of boxes, tools, equipment, or other materials; walking/climbing over rough and uneven construction sites or other terrain; sitting/standing for extended periods of time. Must be able to lift 100 pounds without assistance. General conditions involve moderate risks with exposure to potentially dangerous conditions such as those found at landfills and/or construction sites.
Work environment involves potential exposure to inclement weather, dust, noise, and/or noxious odors and fumes associated with refuse, recyclable materials, and yard waste. Employees may require protective equipment including but not limited to boots, goggles, gloves, or shields.
Work is normally performed during normal business hours that could require alternate work hours within the Landfill operational hours (Monday through Saturday).
This position is 29 hours per week or less.
Conditions of Employment
1. Prior to appointment, employees are subject to pre-employment medical history review and drug testing, extensive background investigation (which may require CJIS and NCIS clearance), including but not limited to reference checking, and driving history, and an evaluation of training or experience.
2. Employees in this classification are essential as defined by the County’s Personnel Policies and Procedures Manual and are required to report to work during inclement weather or other designated emergencies.
