Position Summary Position supervises the daily living environment of residents in a county shelter; creates and maintains a safe and supportive environment.
Position Responsibilities 1. Completes intakes for new admissions which includes but is not to limited assigning sleeping quarters, intake paperwork, explanation of program guidelines, and assisting residents who have recently experienced trauma. Provides and maintains a safe supportive environment for shelter residents and their children. 2. Provides and maintains a safe and supportive environment for shelter residents, including offering supportive listening, crisis intervention, and emotional support as appropriate. 3. Evaluates safety of shelter and residents. May need to evaluate/confront clients for physical/medical concerns, mental health crisis and/or substance abuse crisis. 4. Enforces and explains all shelter rules and guidelines and provides written reminders as needed. 5. Maintains housekeeping standards within established rules and procedures. 6. Develops meal planning and preparation skills with residents. 7. Schedules and coordinates daily chores and activities with residents. 8. Conducts shelter resident meetings. 9. Maintains inventory and ensures adequate levels of food, cleaning supplies, personal hygiene supplies, and other necessary materials. 10. Inspects shelter for and reports any maintenance problems. 11. Ensures safety of residents in shelter, including setting the alarm system and calling police as necessary. 12. Compiles monthly reports of shelter statistics, as necessary. 13. Mediates conflicts between residents. 14. Answers hot-line crisis calls and maintains accurate record of client contact. 15. Attends ongoing professional training and regularly scheduled meetings with supervisors.
Minimum QualificationRequirements Education: High School Diploma or G.E.D. Associates degree preferred. Experience: Minimum of one (1) year volunteer or paid experience working with the public through social, educational, or health related programs.
Certificate(s) and/or License(s) 1. Possession of a valid Class “C” non-commercial driver’s license with no more than three (3) points
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities 2. Ability to deal tactfully with persons experiencing emotional distress. 3. Knowledge of meal planning and preparation. 4. Ability to schedule and coordinate daily activities for residents. 5. Ability to remain calm in stressful situations. 6. Ability to compile necessary reports and statistics. 7. Strong organizational skills. 8. Ability to follow written and oral instructions
