Job Overview
We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Housing Navigator in Santa Cruz County to join our team. The Housing Navigator will play a crucial role in assisting individuals and families in securing stable housing by providing guidance, resources, and support throughout the housing search process. This position requires a strong understanding of housing regulations, crisis management, and property management practices to effectively advocate for clients and facilitate their access to safe and affordable housing options.
Responsibilities
- Assist clients in navigating the housing application process, including completing necessary paperwork and understanding eligibility requirements.
- Provide education on Section 8 and Low-Income Housing Tax Credit (LIHTC) programs to clients seeking affordable housing.
- Ensure compliance with Fair Housing regulations and laws while advocating for clients' rights.
- Conduct crisis intervention and management to support clients facing immediate housing challenges.
- Collaborate with social work professionals to address the holistic needs of clients, including referrals to additional services as needed.
- Utilize property management software such as Yardi to track client progress and maintain accurate records.
- Negotiate with landlords and property managers on behalf of clients to secure favorable rental agreements.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of local housing resources, market trends, and available properties.
Experience
The ideal candidate will possess the following skills and qualifications:
- Experience with Section 8 programs and Fair Housing regulations.
- Knowledge of crisis management techniques and crisis intervention strategies.
- Familiarity with LIHTC programs and property management practices.
- Proficiency in using Yardi or similar property management software.
- Background in social work or related fields is preferred.
- Strong negotiation skills with the ability to advocate effectively for clients.
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, with a focus on building rapport with diverse populations.
