What are the responsibilities and job description for the Referral/Pre-authorization Clerk position at Cedar County Memorial Hospital?
Part-time Referral / Pre-authorization Clerk for our Med Mall Clinic to coordinate the referral and pre-authorization process for scheduled visits and outpatient services. Duties and assignments include securing pre-certifications for provider orders as needed; communicating clinic information that insurance carriers require and answering pertinent questions to obtain approvals; assist with timely scheduling of authorized services and outpatient procedures once authorization has been obtained; assist team members with registration and in assigning appropriate ICD-10 codes to services and verbal orders utilizing on and off-site medical coders as a resource; and providing timely feedback and follow-through to all involved in the process to ensure patient services are not delayed. Successful candidate will also perform other routine office procedures including tending phones and transmitting messages timely, scanning documents, making copies, filing, helping with patient chart prep, and keeping waiting room clean and orderly. Qualified candidates will have [minimally] a HS diploma or GED; proven ability to evaluate medical records and other healthcare data through 2-3 years of on-the-job training processing required medical referrals and pre-authorizations; ability to effectively maneuver through EMR systems to finalize referrals and pre-authorizations timely and accurately; an empathetic and respectful customer-service demeanor; and the ability to key data accurately at a minimum rate of 60 words per minute. Employee in this position is required to sit for 4-6 hours per day while operating a video display terminal and phone system. Must have strong prioritization and organization abilities.
