Cedar Hall Classical Academy is a hybrid homeschool academy in Bedford, Texas that partners with families to train scholars to recognize, pursue, and declare God's revealed truth through all that is true, good, and beautiful. We adhere to a classical, Charlotte Mason educational approach, emphasizing a Christ-focused education that equips students for life after high school, spiritually, intellectually, physically, socially, and creatively. This job posting covers three classes that each meet two days per week.
Responsibilities
- Provide engaging and dynamic classroom instruction for upper school science, including lab activities.
- Teach in-person classes two days a week (Mondays and Wednesdays) with one instructional hour per class each day, for a total of 6 instructional hours per week.
- Write lesson plans based on the selected curriculum, adhering to a pre-approved scope and sequence while having some flexibility to modify the curriculum.
- Foster an environment that promotes critical thinking, creativity, and a love for learning.
- Encourage students to pursue and declare God's truth through scientific inquiry and discovery.
- Utilize technology as appropriate to aid instruction and enhance learning, both in-class and for at-home activities.
- Track student progress and maintain clear communication with parents, who act as facilitators in their children's education.
- Serve as a resource for parents, assisting them in supporting their children's learning and communicating effectively through the Band platform, addressing parent questions and providing updates on class-related matters.
Additional Duties
- Participate in recess or lunch duty, dismissal duties, and attend special events as required.
- Engage in professional development opportunities, including reading and discussing books on classical and Charlotte Mason education.
- Collaborate with other staff members and participate in community-building events throughout the year.
Qualifications
- Demonstrated love for Jesus and alignment with the academy’s mission and values.
- Experience teaching science at the middle or high school level, certification not required.
- Understanding of and appreciation for classical education and the Charlotte Mason approach.
- Strong organizational skills and the ability to write and execute detailed lesson plans.
- Loving and nurturing towards students, fostering a supportive and engaging classroom environment.
- Committed to lifelong learning and personal growth.
- Willingness to mentor new staff and students, and to serve as a role model in faith and academics.
