What are the responsibilities and job description for the Critical Need Paraeducator (Autism Room) position at Cedar Springs Elementary?
JOB SUMMARY:
To assist in providing an appropriate well organized program for special education students who require special needs.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Additional duties may be assigned.
- Assists teacher in:
- Maintaining classroom organization.
- Managing students.
- Preparing teaching materials.
- Reinforcing previously taught materials as described by teacher.
- Implementing policies, rules and/or regulations.
- Implementing IEPs of assigned students.
- Adheres to district policies and departmental, building and classroom procedures.
- Takes all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students.
- Maintains confidentiality of information about students.
- Performs clerical responsibilities as assigned by the teacher.
- Meets or escorts students at designated times.
- Performs other appropriate duties as assigned by the teacher.
- Paraprofessionals assigned to individual students will meet the needs of the student as outlined in the I.E.P.
- Performs medical, educational, physical, behavioral, and personal care tasks requiring specialized training for assigned students.
- Critical needs status will be determined by the Director of Student Services and the Chief Academic Officer.
EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:
- 60 hours of college credit and have passed the Paraprofessional Praxis (ParaPro Assessment), or DESE approved 20-hour substitute certification course, preferred.

- Experience with young people.
- Prior experience in a school setting is desired.
- Experience with educational applications (i.e., copying machine and computer skills) is desired.

OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
- Demonstrate organizational ability and attention to detail.
- Ability to provide assistance to the school community as necessary.
- Ability to work independently.
- Excellent human relation skills.
- Knowledge of office equipment (computers, copiers, fax machine, and related items).
