What are the responsibilities and job description for the Special Education Assistant 1:1 w/ student (Cedar Trails) position at Cedar Springs Public Schools?
This position is a Special Education Assistant postition - (32.5 hours/week)
Special Education Assistnat provides 1:1 support assisting in the supervision, care, and instruction of a student with special needs; assisting in implementing plans for instruction; monitoring student needs; providing information to appropriate school personnel.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Minimum:
- High School graduate, AND
- Earned 60 semester credit hours from an institution of higher education, OR
- Earned an Associate’s degree or higher, OR
- Passing score on a State Board approved formal assessment (Basic Skills MTTC, ETS Parapro Assessment, or Workkeys)
- Current CPR Certification or willing to obtain CPR certificate
- CPI training or willingness to obtain training
- Evidence of skills with behavior management
- Demonstrates dependability and promptness
- Understanding, patient, warm and receptive attitude toward children
- Ability to assume responsibility for supervising students
- Ability to maintain a cooperative working relationship with students, staff, parents, and the general public with the understanding that confidentiality should be exhibited
- Ability to work outside during all seasons

Cedar Springs Public Schools is a Preschool through 12th-grade public school consisting of over 3,000 students and nearly 400 employees. We are located within the city limits of Cedar Springs, Michigan in Kent County. Cedar Springs Public Schools is one of 20 member public school districts within the Kent Intermediate School District (KISD).
