Position Overview:

This role supports the infrastructure engineering division responsible for new product development, as well as factory and customer support. The team consists of power electronics engineers and mechanical engineers, and the candidate will be directly supported and mentored by a senior power electronics engineer. The contractor will report to the hiring manager and work in a quiet office setting with a designated lab area for hands-on testing. The position was created to drive the continued development of next-generation communications hardware, ensuring design modifications for legacy products can meet evolving production requirements and compliance needs. The individual selected for this position will support design and redesign efforts of analog and DC power electronics integrated within infrastructure communication systems. They will work independently on power supply circuits, assist in hardware testing and validation, and troubleshoot performance issues as part of development and lifecycle management activities. The role requires both analytical and hands-on engineering work, in close collaboration with internal cross-functional partners to ensure design changes are implemented effectively and meet engineering standards.

Required Skills/Experience/Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or related field
  • 4 to 7 years of relevant experience with analog and DC power electronics
  • Demonstrated experience working with switch mode power supplies (buck configuration)
  • Ability to operate an oscilloscope and take transient performance measurements
  • Proficiency with schematic capture tools, specifically Cadence
  • Experience with high-speed PCB (Printed Circuit Board) layout best practices
  • Familiarity with selecting appropriate topologies for power supply applications
  • Ability to perform pre-compliance testing and troubleshoot hardware performance issues
  • Proven ability to work independently with limited supervision, while receiving guidance from a technical mentor
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills for collaborative work with engineering teams
  • Prior experience working within a product development environment
  • Comfortable working onsite in a safety-sensitive lab and engineering setting

Preferred Skills (Not Required):

  • Experience with LT Spice or other circuit simulation tools to model switch mode power supply behavior
  • Background in the telecommunications or electronics manufacturing industry

Day to Day/Responsibilities:

  • Modify and redesign discrete switch mode power supply circuits into PMIC (Power Management Integrated Circuit) configurations using Cadence schematic capture
  • Support three separate PCB designs by implementing new components and verifying functionality
  • Replace end-of-life (EOL) components with qualified, active parts to ensure product continuity in production
  • Follow a provided test plan to validate new circuit designs, using lab instrumentation and analysis techniques
  • Use an oscilloscope and related tools to conduct transient performance measurements and verify design accuracy
  • Conduct hands-on testing in the lab to certify design modifications according to engineering specifications
  • Collaborate regularly with the existing power electronics team and mechanical engineering support to meet development timelines
  • Document technical work, provide updates on test outcomes, and assist in issue resolution for both new and legacy products
  • Engage in approximately two weeks of onsite training before transitioning into independent work within the team
  • Ensure safety protocols are followed when working in the lab environment, including the use of provided safety glasses during soldering or component handling activities
  • Maintain accountability for project timelines typically ranging from 6 to 12 months, ensuring alignment with development milestones and production schedules
