Job Description
Mechanical Designer / Engineer
We are seeking a highly skilled Mechanical Designer / Engineer with a passion for theme park and transportation system design.
- This role involves working in a multi-disciplinary team to create, develop, and maintain world-class ride experiences, animatronics, and show mechanical equipment.
- Designing and working with ride and show materials.
- Handling gearboxes, light bulbs, and mechanical components used in attractions.
- Converting and working within both AutoCAD and SolidWorks drawings.
- Engaging with machine design, hydraulics, pneumatics, and fabrication processes.
Qualifications:
- 5 years of design experience as a Designer or degreed Engineer in a multi-discipline technical environment
- Outstanding “clean sheet” design sensibilities
- Proficiency in SolidWorks and AutoCAD with professional training and/or certification
- Strong mechanical design skills with an understanding of manufacturing processes
- Knowledge of materials (metals, composites, plastics), welding, finish processes, and ASME standards (Y14 and Y14.5)
- Ability to lead design
- Advanced understanding of machine assemblies and power systems with the ability to translate designs into CAD models or physical drawings
- Proficiency in Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing (GD&T)
- Strong problem-solving, analytical, and organizational skills with the ability to communicate effectively across all levels, including executive leadership
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
- Aptitude for quickly learning new software packages
- Backgrounds in automotive, robotics, hydraulics, pneumatics, and weldments
Experience in production drawing packages, including:
- Configuration management
- Dimensioning and tolerancing
- Weldments, sheet metal design
- Material selection, fastening, and joining
- Machine and fabrication shop practices
- Hydraulics and pneumatics, fabrication, and commissioning activities
Passion for designing and maintaining:
- Ride systems, animatronics, and show mechanical equipment
- Various transportation systems (Steam Trains, Boats, Monorails, Buses)
Education details
Required
- Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field (or equivalent experience)
Preferred
- Reliability-centered maintenance experience
- Experience with EPLAN, PLM/SmarTeam systems, Navisworks BIM modeling
