Overview:
The Process Control Technician plays a vital role in ensuring the reliable and efficient operation of the Flake core unit at the Narrows plant. This position provides daily process control support, maintains system health, and implements control system modifications. Responsibilities include field commissioning, loop sheet management, interlock/alarm testing, and control configuration. The technician serves as a key point of contact for off-hours control support.
Responsibilities:
- DCS/PLC System Management: Maintain and troubleshoot DCS/PLC systems within the Flake core unit. Actively participate in Capital Projects and process improvement activities to optimize production.
- Documentation & Configuration: Interpret and modify electrical and instrumentation diagrams (loop sheets, P&IDs, one-line diagrams), update control system documentation, and configure I/O within DCS systems.
- Testing & Commissioning: Perform Factory Acceptance Tests (FAT), functional interlock testing, and Safety Instrumented System (SIS) maintenance and testing.
- Vendor Collaboration: Liaise with third-party control suppliers/vendors to maintain spare parts inventory and implement keep current upgrades.
- System Monitoring & Diagnostics: Verify system diagnostics and reports to ensure optimal performance and proactively address potential issues.
- HMI Development & Maintenance: Edit and maintain graphical user displays (HMIs) for control systems.
- Troubleshooting & Support: Provide troubleshooting assistance for electrical and instrumentation activities and respond to off-hours support requests.
Qualifications:
Required:
- Associate degree in a technical field (Electrical Instrumentation or Controls preferred) OR 3 years of process control technician experience in a manufacturing environment (chemical or oil & gas preferred).
- Proficiency in reading and interpreting loop sheets and P&IDs.
- Working knowledge of industrial control systems and control strategies.
- Ability to perform control system configuration modifications (module additions, interlock configuration, setpoint adjustments).
Desired:
- Bachelor's degree in a technical field (Electrical or Instrumentation preferred) OR 5 years of process control technician experience in a manufacturing environment (chemical or oil & gas preferred).
- Advanced knowledge of industrial control systems and strategies.
- Experience with ladder diagrams, block diagrams, and sequential function diagrams.
- Proficiency with DeltaV, Aveva PI System, Allen-Bradley/Rockwell, Siemens PLCs, and/or Provox.
- Experience using device communicators (Trex, Beamex, etc.).
- Working knowledge of industrial control communication protocol standards.
