PTA Details
Part Time Schedules (Up to 32 hours per week)
Some weekends may be required
8 or 12 hour shifts available depending on the facility
Contract Position (flexible with shift availability is a plus)
PTA Duties
Provide direct patient care under supervision of a licensed physical therapist, assisting inmates with therapeutic exercises, functional activities, gait training, and other rehabilitation interventions to promote mobility and independence.
Assist in implementing individualized treatment plans developed by the supervising physical therapist, following established protocols and modifying interventions as necessary based on inmate progress and response to therapy.
Administer therapeutic modalities such as heat, cold, electrical stimulation, and ultrasound under the direction of the physical therapist, ensuring proper application and monitoring inmates' responses to treatment.
Instruct inmates on proper exercise techniques, body mechanics, and use of adaptive equipment to maximize therapeutic benefits and prevent injury during rehabilitation sessions.
Monitor inmates' responses to treatment interventions, including vital signs, pain levels, functional abilities, and adherence to exercise programs, and report findings to the supervising physical therapist.
Maintain accurate and timely documentation of patient care activities, treatment sessions, progress notes, and outcomes measures in electronic health record systems or other designated formats, in accordance with facility policies and regulatory requirements.
Provide inmates with education on injury prevention, home exercise programs, self-care strategies, and safe mobility techniques to support their rehabilitation progress and facilitate successful reintegration into the community upon release.
Collaborate with members of the healthcare team, including physical therapists, occupational therapists, nurses, and correctional staff, to coordinate care, share information, and optimize treatment outcomes for inmates.
Other duties as assigned.
PTA Qualifications
Graduation from an accredited educational institution
Licensed as a Physical Therapist Assistant (PTA) by the State in which the position is located. The license MUST be in good standing
1 year of relevant Physical Therapist Assistant (PTA) experience
