8 or 12 hr shifts depending on the specific facility
Contract Position
RT Duties
Assessment and Evaluation: Conducting initial assessments of respiratory health for inmates, including reviewing medical history, performing physical examinations, and evaluating respiratory function through various tests such as spirometry.
Treatment Planning: Developing individualized treatment plans based on assessment findings, which may include interventions like breathing exercises, medication administration, chest physiotherapy, and oxygen therapy.
Monitoring: Regularly monitoring inmates with respiratory conditions to assess their progress, adjust treatment plans as necessary, and ensure compliance with prescribed therapies.
Emergency Response: Being prepared to respond to respiratory emergencies within the correctional facility, such as asthma attacks, exacerbations of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), or allergic reactions.
Education and Counseling: Providing education to inmates on respiratory health topics, such as smoking cessation, proper inhaler technique, and self-management strategies for chronic conditions. Additionally, offering counseling and support to help inmates cope with respiratory issues and adhere to their treatment plans.
Collaboration: Working closely with other healthcare professionals within the correctional facility, including physicians, nurses, and mental health specialists, to coordinate care and ensure comprehensive treatment for inmates with respiratory conditions.
Documentation: Maintaining detailed and accurate medical records of assessments, treatments, and patient interactions in accordance with facility policies and legal requirements.
Infection Control: Adhering to infection control protocols to prevent the spread of respiratory illnesses within the facility, including proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE) and participating in infection control initiatives.
Health Promotion: Participating in health promotion activities within the correctional facility, such as conducting screenings for respiratory conditions, organizing educational workshops, and advocating for policies that support respiratory health among inmates.
Continuing Education: Engaging in ongoing professional development to stay current with advancements in respiratory care practices, technologies, and regulations, ensuring the delivery of high-quality care to inmates.
RT Qualifications
Graduation from an accredited educational institution
Licensed as a Respiratory Therapist (RT) by the State in which the position is located. The license MUST be in good standing
1 year of relevant Respiratory Therapist (RT) experience
1 year of NICU experience
EPIC experience is required
