Print Production Specialist

Location: Washington, D.C.

Job Type: Contract

Compensation Range: $29 - 33 per hour

We are seeking a skilled Print Production Specialist to join our team. In this role, you will prepare diverse documents for both digital and offset printing, using advanced prepress equipment such as lithographic process cameras, electronic imagesetters, and platemaking tools. You will work with digital files, handling tasks like processing, repair, and manipulation using specialized software and hardware. As a senior technician, you'll also mentor less experienced staff and oversee unit activities. Advanced proficiency in prepress technology and equipment is required for this role.

Responsibilities:

• Organize and coordinate the work of the prepress unit to meet required deadlines.
• Independently set up, adjust, and operate the most complex prepress equipment, both digital and manual.
• Handle difficult prepress jobs, including performing preflight work on complex digital files.
• Create, manipulate, and impose files for direct digital output.
• Produce digital color separations and perform digital color correction and retouching.
• Diagnose, resolve, and document technical problems (e.g., text, graphics, images, PostScript system errors, RIP messages, and production issues in software like Microsoft Word).
• Troubleshoot and resolve equipment problems; ensure routine maintenance and minor repairs.
• Maintain and retrieve backup files of all electronic and proof documents.
• Ensure that the work area meets safety standards.
  
  
  

Qualifications:

Essential Specialized Skills/Knowledge/Competencies:

• Technical education and experience in prepress printing and graphics or equivalent.
• Proficiency in photographic and lithographic principles, procedures, and methods to handle complex prepress jobs, including color work.
• Advanced proficiency in operating and maintaining complex digital and manual prepress equipment.
• Expertise in evaluating, processing, and manipulating digital files and images.
• Proficiency in both Macintosh and Windows production environments.
• Proven ability to supervise and guide others.
• Strong organizational skills.
• Ability to navigate multicultural environments and build effective working relationships with clients and colleagues.
