Cellone’s bakes fresh Italian breads and rolls at our 110,000 sq ft commercial bakery in Pittsburgh, PA. The same family that operates the business today founded Cellone’s in 1911. Job Description
The Operations Manager oversees the day-to-day activities of the Operations Department, ensuring that the department is managed and performing efficiently and effectively. This position directs the work and schedules of shift supervisors and personnel in the Operations Department.
The Operations Department consists of the production, packaging, shipping, and receiving functions of the company.
Supervisory Duties
· Participates in the hiring and training of departmental supervisors.
· Organizes and oversees the work and schedules of departmental managers.
· Conducts performance evaluations that are timely and constructive.
· Handles discipline and termination of employees as needed and in accordance with company policy.
Responsibilities and Duties
· Collaborate with senior managers in the development of performance goals and long-term operational plans.
· Monitors and updates baking, packaging, and shipping procedures to achieve consistent high-quality products produced in an efficient manner.
· Establishes guidelines and standards by which the company's efficiency and effectiveness can be evaluated; identifies opportunities for improvement.
· Devise strategies for ensuring operational growth and implement process improvements to maximize output and minimize costs.
· Reviews, updates, and evaluates standard operating procedures.
· Implements policies and procedures that will improve day-to-day operations.
· Establishes and monitors the training of all employees in the Operations Department to meet company standards of performance and safety.
· Ensures work environments are adequate and safe.
· Communicates and explains new directives, policies, or procedures to managers; for major changes, meets with entire operations staff to explain changes, answer questions, and maintain morale.
· Works with HR to meet organizational objectives and budget guidelines.
· Improves customer service and satisfaction through policy and procedural changes.
· Leads coordination and integration of efforts among operations, maintenance, quality, and R&D departments to produce smoother workflow and more cost-effective business processes.
· Projects a positive image of the organization to employees, customers, industry, and community.
· Performs other related duties as assigned.
· Oversees the daily production schedule, ensuring that production goals are met while eliminating waste. Reports shortfalls and overages to executives.
· Trains shift supervisors on company policies, including safety, security, employee relations, scheduling, training, grievances, etc.
· Provides direction, development, and leadership to Shift Supervisors. Ensuring they are adhering to company policy and administering practices in a fair and equitable manner.
· Sets the schedule for the shop on a weekly basis, sets yearly vacation planning.
· Support and comply with all GMP’, food safety, and OSHA guidelines operations personnel.
Qualifications
- 10 or more years of experience managing large scale bakery operations
- Knowledge of food manufacturing, human resources laws and regulations, and employee relations skills
- Knowledge of lean manufacturing and waste reduction
- Production planning and execution
- Strong computer skills and experience with Microsoft Office
- Change management and experience with culture change
- Strong Communication skills; verbal and written
· Good practical understanding of large volume baking equipment and factors driving efficiency
· Working knowledge of lean and high-performing manufacturing principles, and has demonstrated quality improvement and cost reduction under his/her leadership
