The role responsibilities include supervisory and technical work in the construction, maintenance and repair of streets, bridges and related public works. The work involves planning, organizing, assigning and reviewing the work of a group of skilled, semiskilled and unskilled workers. Bring your talent in developing a crew, efficient scheduling, organization, and hands on technical supervision to manage the functions performed by subordinates. Must be able to exercise discretion and independent judgment in directing the varied operations of the Department. The Director is under the direct supervision of the Operations Manager.
Requirements, Knowledge and Abilities:
HS or equivalent, prefer college courses in civil engineering
Extensive experience in the construction and maintenance of streets and related structures.
Experience in construction, paving, asphalt and ready-mix concrete.
Must possess a valid Class B CDL license issued by the State of Tennessee, or ability to obtain one upon date of hire.

- Methods, tools, equipment and practices of street construction, maintenance, cleaning and snow removal.
- Types and uses of light and heavy construction, maintenance and related equipment required in the construction and maintenance of streets and storm sewers.
- Supervise and coordinate group of on average up to 10 workers engaged in a variety of street work tasks.
- Prepare material and labor cost estimates.
- Maintain records and prepare work reports.
- Make decisions recognizing established precedents and practices, and to use resourcefulness and tact in meeting new problems.
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships with Town officials and officers, subordinates and the general public, utilizing good judgment.
- Basic keyboarding skills and familiarity with computer applications for communication, record keeping and internet research.
