Position: Employment Specialist for Reentry Program (HR Coordinator)
Location: Newport News, VA – Onsite
Duration: 12 Months Contract
Job Summary:
This position is responsible for assisting individuals in the job search process. This includes facilitation and one-on-one coaching to assist the program participant in finding a job. This position will also work with local businesses to locate available positions to refer clients to. Must be willing to travel to other Hampton Roads cities to deliver training.
Job Duties:
- Develop collaborative partnerships with agencies and employer partners in the Hampton Roads service area.
- Provides community outreach activities to recruit program participants
- Conduct client intake to include obtaining demographics, proof of income, etc.
- Maintains client files to include documentation of progress notes.
- Create an individualized service plan and portfolio for each participant.
- Assist with resume development of clients to strengthen volunteer experience, work history, and skill development before, and after intensive counseling.
- Assist workforce training and placement coordinator in coordinating job fairs, hiring events, and seminars for job seekers.
- Manage data entry into the VA Workforce Connection labor exchange database for the Commonwealth and the EmpowOR software for share case management.
- Facilitates workforce related courses (i.e., interviewing techniques, resume writing) and other life skills enrichment seminars.
- Screens and refers program participants to available job openings.
- Coach applicants in preparation for job interviews and job placement.
- Contacts prospective employers to locate job openings.
- Maintains working relationships with employers.
- Conducts employment follow-up activities after client is hired for a period of ninety days.
- All other job-related duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Experience in assisting individuals in the job search process and case management.
- Must have the ability to plan, direct and coordinate community services to reach diverse target markets.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills required.
- Must have presentation and/or training skills.
- Ability to work varied hours to assist clients (evenings/weekends).
- Expertise in office 365.
- A valid driver's license and operational vehicle is required
- Must possess and maintain a valid Virginia driver's license.
- Willing to consent to the performance of a drug screen, criminal background check, driving record and credit report.
- College Degree Required
- Proof of Covid Vaccination required
- 3 years’ experience or work-related experience requested
