GENERAL SUMMARY OF DUTIES – Responsible for processing and shipping biological samples samples collected from study participants. Also responsible for reviewing the CLIA waived sample tests.
SUPERVISOR – Laboratory/Pharmacy Lead
DUTIES INCLUDE, BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO:
- Responsible for processing blood and urine samples per study protocol;
- Collect Biohazard lab waste and dispose of properly;
- Stock designated areas and departments within the outpatient, laboratory, and inpatient areas;
- Ship frozen samples according to study protocol;
- Receive lab supplies;
- Call processing lab companies regarding processing questions;
- Set up, operate and calibrate laboratory equipment;
- Maintain, clean, and disinfect according to industry codes/standards;
- Complete all documentation (source documents, laboratory records, and inventory) correctly and in a timely manner;
- Communicate study inclusion/exclusion criteria (in regards to lab assessments with coordinators);
- Attend site initiation meetings;
- Read, comprehend, and implement lab requirements listed in protocols and lab manuals;
- Other duties as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & APILITIES – This position requires the following minimal requirements:
- Knowledge of current medical terminology to perform a full range of laboratory tests;
- Knowledge of laboratory equipment and testing to perform quality control checks and troubleshooting of instrumentation.
- Knowledge of medical terminology to communicate with study/medical staff regarding laboratory procedures and results;
- Skill in performing a full range of laboratory tests;
- Skill in anticipating and reacting calmly to emergency situations;
- Skill in developing and maintaining department quality assurance;
- Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with study participants, study staff and management;
- Ability to read and understand information about instrumentation in laboratory field;
- Ability to follow written protocols;
- Ability to work independently and as a team;
- Ability to communicate clearly, both orally and written.
EDUCATION – High School Diploma or equivalent required
EXPERIENCE – A minimum of one (1) year experience as a medical technologist preferred.
CERTIFICATE/LICENSE – CPR Certification.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS/WORKING CONDITIONS – Requires full range of body motion including manual and finger dexterity and eye-hand coordination. Frequent standing and walking required for extended periods of time. Lifts and carries items weighing up to 25 pounds. Requires visual acuity and normal color perception. Exposure to communicable diseases, toxic substances, medicinal preparations and other conditions common to a clinic environment.
