Job Summary:
As a Billing Specialist, you will be responsible for handling daily billing operations, posting insurance payments, reviewing patient accounts for accuracy, and resolving discrepancies. You will also be the point of contact for patient billing inquiries, ensuring clear communication and providing itemized receipts as needed. The ideal candidate will have a thorough understanding of CPT/HCPCS codes, ICD-10 codes, and modifiers to ensure correct billing and reimbursement.
Key Responsibilities:
- Daily Billing: Process daily billing for fertility treatments, procedures, medications, and consultations accurately and in a timely manner using CPT/HCPCS codes, ICD-10 codes, and appropriate modifiers.
- Insurance Payment Posting: Post insurance payments to patient accounts, ensuring accuracy in matching payments with claims and applying necessary codes and modifiers.
- Account Review: Regularly review patient accounts to ensure accuracy, identifying discrepancies and initiating corrections when necessary.
- Discrepancy Resolution: Investigate and resolve billing discrepancies, whether related to insurance payments, patient accounts, or charges.
- Patient Inquiries: Respond to patient billing inquiries promptly, offering clear and professional assistance regarding billing concerns, payment options, and insurance coverage.
- Itemized Receipts: Provide itemized receipts for patients upon request, ensuring clarity and accuracy of charges.
- Insurance Verification: Assist in verifying patient insurance information and benefits prior to treatments, ensuring proper documentation for billing purposes.
- Compliance: Ensure that all billing practices comply with federal, state, and insurance company guidelines, including the use of appropriate CPT/HCPCS codes, ICD-10 codes, and modifiers.
- Collaboration: Work closely with the administrative and clinical teams to ensure that billing information is up to date and accurate.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent; Associate’s degree in Business, Healthcare Administration, or related field preferred.
- Minimum of 2 years of billing experience in a healthcare setting, preferably in a fertility clinic or similar medical specialty.
- Strong knowledge of CPT/HCPCS codes, ICD-10 codes, and modifiers used in medical billing.
- Proficiency in insurance billing processes and payment posting procedures.
- Excellent attention to detail with strong problem-solving abilities.
- Exceptional communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Ability to handle sensitive patient information with confidentiality and professionalism.
- Proficient in using billing software and Microsoft Office Suite.
- Knowledge of HIPAA regulations and healthcare compliance.
