Position Summary: The Budget Analyst will work in a nonprofit fund accounting environment, managing the revenue and expenses for a portion of over 70 diverse grants and contracts in multiple program areas. This role involves active collaboration within a team environment to ensure efficient financial operations, reporting, and grant compliance. This can be a fully remote position for a candidate in New York State. 

Direct Supervisor: Director of Finance

Location: Hybrid CNY area, or Fully Remote in New York State. Must live in NYS to be considered. 

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Perform daily financial operations and assist with the development and management of budgets, including external grants and contracts, federally funded projects, and gifts.
  • Develop program and grant budgets in coordination with the development team, program management, and finance.
  • Serve as a liaison between finance, funders, and program staff, requiring strong interpersonal and organizational skills.
  • Manage the financial operations of assigned grants and program areas, ensuring timely submission of invoices and reports to funders.
  • Support programs in achieving their intended outcomes while maintaining acceptable bottom-line results on an annual basis.
  • Review and manage the financial position of programs to optimize resource utilization, including the development of annual budgets in collaboration with stakeholders to ensure sustainability.
  • Monitor budget allocations, expense tracking, and related financial activities to ensure accuracy, compliance, and adherence to fiscal practices.
  • Develop and maintain complex spreadsheets for budgeting and invoicing while assisting program directors in maximizing budgets.
  • Be proficient in Microsoft Excel, as most work is completed through Excel spreadsheets.
  • Be willing and able to adapt to and learn new portals, software, and systems, as each funder’s invoicing and submission requirements are unique.
  • Knowledge of SAGE Intacct and Rippling, or similar accounting and HR systems, is a bonus.
  • Conduct oneself professionally in meetings as needed and act as a servant resource to the programs supported.
  • Identify, assess, and implement streamlined processes to improve efficiencies continually.
  • Perform additional tasks as assigned by the supervisor.

Qualifications:

  • Experience in budgeting and financial management of multiple government grants and contracts in a nonprofit setting is preferred.
  • BA or BS in accounting, finance, or another quantitative field is preferred.
  • Analytical skills and critical thinking are highly desired.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel is preferred, given the reliance on Excel for most work.
  • Proficiency in MS Office and databases is required; familiarity with nonprofit accounting software is a plus.
  • Knowledge of SAGE Intacct and Rippling, or similar accounting and HR systems, is highly desirable.
  • Willingness to learn and adapt to new software, portals, and invoicing systems as required by various funders.
  • Experience in the criminal justice field or human services is a plus.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills, mathematical aptitude, and the ability to work independently.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to collaborate effectively in a team environment.
  • Ability to maintain professionalism in meetings and provide responsive, supportive service to program staff.
