Position Summary: Under the direction of the Director of Prevention, Education, and Advocacy Services, the Volunteer and Training Manager (VTM) is responsible for the ongoing development, implementation, and evaluation of both the volunteer and training programs. The VTM manages scheduling, development and implementation of trainings including the California state-certified DV/SA Crisis Intervention Training (CIT) and ongoing training for staff and volunteers as well as trainings in the community. Provides technical assistance to support CCS staff during CIT in presenting on intimate partner violence and sexual assault intervention and prevention. Responsible for the development, implementation, recruitment, and retention of trauma-informed volunteers. Directly responsible for providing guidance, support and resources to staff who supervise and train volunteers.
Essential Functions:
- Oversee CCS’ Crisis Intervention Training (CIT), ensuring that it meets California Evidence Code 1037.1 standards and is approved by California Office of Emergency Services (Cal-OES). Maintain records of training conducted as required under certification.
- Coordinate CIT and ongoing trainings for CCS staff and volunteers including scheduling speakers, coordinating space and materials, providing training and processing activities, and documenting trainee participation in accordance with Cal-OES
- Train staff and volunteers, incorporating didactic education, experiential activities, simulations, modeling, co-facilitation, and live observation and debriefing methods to ensure skill development and fidelity of implementation.
- Collaborate with CCS staff on the development of training curriculum and create professional training materials, including handouts, PowerPoint presentations, experiential exercises, and practical application tools.
- Achieve and maintain expertise in implementing evidence-based training and practices, including but not limited to the Community Resiliency Model, Motivational Interviewing, and Jacquelyn Campbell’s Danger Assessment, as directed.
- Oversee CCS’ volunteer program agency wide ensuring that relevant laws and policy are followed.
- Implement goals, policies, and procedures for the volunteer program and update as needed to reflect the mission, values, and needs of the organization.
- Responsible for recruitment and onboarding of all volunteer roles in collaboration with volunteer supervisors. Ensure that volunteer supervisors are trained in effective volunteer retention practices.
- Provide ongoing communication with volunteers to strengthen the volunteer experience and ensure ongoing connection to the organization and mission, including during the volunteer’s time in CIT.
- Oversee CCS’ Volunteer Database and Training logs, ensuring accuracy and compliance set by grants and CCS policies. Responsible for pulling data reports and ensuring staff and volunteers are appropriately utilizing the database.
- Responsible for maintaining positive community relations, including fostering and maintaining excellent relationships/partnerships with universities, civic groups, government entities, businesses, media, funding sources, and community partners.
- In collaboration with PEAS team ensure a cohesive social media identity by researching and creating messages, tasks, and activities across platforms that support volunteer recruitment, retention and sharing CCS’ mission.
- Deliver community outreach and educational presentations and trainings in the community throughout regions of San Diego County, according to CCS standards, to fulfill community needs as capacity allows.
- Maintain working knowledge of referral resources, evidence-based practices and current grant requirements.

Qualifications
Job Requirements:
Education:
- Minimum of a bachelor’s degree in education, public health, social services or related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Completion of CCS’ California Governor’s Office of Emergency Services-certified Domestic Violence/Sexual Assault Crisis Intervention Training required (or must be completed upon hiring).
Experience:
- A minimum of two (2) years working in the field of intimate partner violence, sexual assault, or stalking or equivalent proven work experience with at least one (1) year experience counseling domestic violence and sexual assault victims within a Domestic Violence Organization.
- A minimum of one (1) year coordinating or providing supervisory support to volunteers in a nonprofit setting.
- A minimum of two (2) years’ experience conducting outreach and/or providing education on trauma and/or crisis-related issues to the public and groups.
- A minimum of two (2) years’ experience leading a project or program.
- A minimum of two (2) years’ hosting in-person and virtual training or demonstrated experience facilitating presentations or events to small to mid-sized audiences.
Preferred Experience:
- Bilingual/multilingual oral and written fluency
- Master’s degree in social work, public health, or related field or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Working Environment:
This position is hybrid-work eligible contingent on the operational needs of the department. It may allow for 2 days in person and 3 days remote but may be subject to change based on training and operational needs. This job operates in a professional office environment. Some outreach and off-site activities will be held in other locations regularly. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines. Working conditions may include possible exposure to communicable diseases related to those typically found in social services setting. Tuberculosis screening may be required.
Physical Demands:
While performing the duties of this job, the incumbent is regularly required to see, talk and hear. The incumbent frequently is required to stand, walk, go up and down stairs, stoop, bend, use hands to finger, handle or feel, and reach with hands and arms. Must be able to carry up to 50lbs.
Travel:
Approximately 20% travel may be required (within San Diego County and state-wide). Must have reliable transportation available for work-related purposes, a valid California driver’s license, and proof of automobile insurance.
Work Hours:
The employee must be available during Agency working hours of 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. and must work 30 hours each week to maintain full-time status. Frequent evening and weekend work will be required as job duties demand.
