The Opportunity
The Social Enterprise Director will ensure CEO’s social enterprise - comprising over 140 work crews - delivers exceptional high quality work to its customers and programming to its participants. The Director will lead the development of the performance management infrastructure of the department; including systems, processes, tools, etc. They will work closely with each team in the Social Enterprise unit providing leadership and direction on complex projects, system automation and optimization, workflow and process improvements, and change management.
The Director will have experience developing strategy and leading implementation of large projects. Additionally they will provide the consultation, facilitation of collaboration, analysis, and solution development needed to improve and drive CEO’s operations during this exponential growth phase.

What began as a demonstration project of the Vera Institute of Justice in the 1970s to address employment barriers facing the formerly incarcerated following release in New York City has grown into the leading reentry employment organization in the country, where over 30,000 formerly incarcerated individuals have secured full-time employment since 1996.

The salary range for this position is $95,600-107,500/annually. CEO's compensation philosophy considers a variety of factors including experience, internal equity, and the labor market associated with the city in which the position is located. This position can be located in any of the cities in which CEO operates. The labor markets associated with the cities in which CEO is based are variable, and the salary range included here reflects this. Our salary offer will fall within this range and will be reflective of the labor market of the city in which the position is based, as well the other factors named above.

Who You Are
- You have a minimum of 7 years of experience in a leadership role within social enterprises or related fields, with 3 years of people management experience leading high-performing teams
- You have experience building performance management systems and a performance culture
- You have a proven track record of managing diverse teams and driving operational excellence
- You have experience in project management and leading teams to outcomes and goals
- You have a strong commitment to CEO's mission and values
- You are skilled at not just collecting data, but using data to make decisions
- you have strong knowledge of compliance and quality assurance practices
- You have excellent interpersonal and communication skills
- You have strong analytical and problem-solving abilities
- You have strong knowledge of Google Suite products and Salesforce, and possess the ability to understand technology systems easily
Key responsibilities of the Social Enterprise Director include but are not limited to:
Strategy Implementation
- Lead the implementation of initiatives within the comprehensive Social Enterprise Operations strategy across all sites, with particular oversight of the performance management function(s) of the department e.g. KPI tracking and operational improvement
- Build and maintain a performance management system that consistently provides Social Enterprise management with real-time access to actionable, accurate, and accessible information
- Work in partnership with the Deputy Executive Director, SE and Program Leadership across each of the CEO sites to ensure adherence to a national Social Enterprise strategy
- Serve as a leader alongside the Deputy Executive Director, SE and other senior management to continue to grow and scale Social Enterprise Operations
- Lead and support performance management of social enterprise operations, improving social enterprise operational efficiency and effectiveness overall
- Proactively identify areas of improvement and growth for CEO’s social enterprise and develop and implement strategies for improving those areas
- Along with a team of Subject Matter Experts (SMEs), develop, disseminate and implement social enterprise best practices that are utilized across CEO nationwide
- Ensure Social Enterprise Managers and Site Supervisors receive effective and robust training, professional development and coaching opportunities so they are empowered to drive CEO’s day-to-day operations
- Work in partnership with the SE leadership team to ensure compliance with all relevant policies, including but not limited to time and attendance, speeding, idling/ geofencing, and other operational protocols
- Work in partnership to support quality assurance processes to maintain high productivity standards across all SE functions
- Collaborate with the Safety team to ensure best practices are followed and safety trainings are disseminated effectively
- Support business development initiatives to support the financial sustainability of the social enterprise
- Oversee and participate as a proactive leader and collaborator, including leading team meetings, meeting with participants and staff, and supporting the projects of colleagues within and outside of the Program departments
- Effectively manage team members to achieve key strategic objectives
- Establish and implement systems of accountability that are transparent and ensure that objectives and goals are met and accurate
- Work with other internal teams to build a strong organizational culture, address emerging needs, and advance innovations that strengthen CEO’s culture and work
