What are the responsibilities and job description for the Director of Education position at Center for Employment Training?
The Director of Education plays a pivotal role in advancing CET's mission through strategic leadership in curriculum design, program assessment, and instructional innovation. This role ensures the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of occupational programs that align with industry standards, labor market demands, and regulatory compliance.
The Director oversees key processes such as curriculum development, academic assessment, LMS management, and staff training, fostering collaboration across CET campuses to enhance instructional quality and student outcomes.
Additionally, the Director shares responsibility in maintaining compliance with federal, state, and accrediting body regulations, while driving innovation and promoting adherence to CET’s program design and mission. The Director of Education reports to the Vice President of Academic Affairs.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS (May include but not limited to the following):
- Supervise CET Corporate Education Staff
Institutional Policies & Procedures
- Develop, revise, interpret and disseminate programmatic policies and procedures.
- Work closely with the various corporate department heads to develop and/or revise policies, procedures or implementation tools.
- Interprets and applies federal and state laws, regulations, and policies; as directed by supervisor, formulates and revises policies and procedures.
- Contributes to the development, revision, and distribution of student catalogs and catalog addenda, and other curriculum-related documents specific to the responsibilities of the Education Department.
Accreditation & Licensing
- Monitors annual institutional compliance with Accreditation Standards and Criteria of the Council on Occupational Education:
- Monitors compliance with Technical Advisory Committees (TAC); this includes the reviewing Technical Advisory Committee recommendations to inform curriculum revisions, program enhancements, and alignment with industry standards
- Monitors compliance with the COE Written Plans (and related documentation)
- Process Substantive and Non-Substantive Applications to COE for program approvals and other changes.
- Guides and assists Center staff in complying with accreditation standards.
- Monitors annual compliance with California’s Bureau for Private Postsecondary Education (BPPE) by supporting:
- BPPE’s Annual Review process and documentation
- Announced and Unannounced Visits
- Interpret correspondence from BPPE regarding school compliance issues
- Prepares statistical reports and/or written correspondence for federal, state, accrediting commission, and other regulatory agencies, as directed by the supervisor; ensures accuracy and quality presentation of data.
- Shares the responsibility of monitoring Centers’ programmatic and general operations to ensure compliance with federal, state, and accreditation requirements.
Staff Professional Development Institute (PDI)
- Shares responsibility in planning and implementing staff professional development seminars. This includes the design, preparation, and delivery of in-person and virtual, training sessions.
- Leads Education Team in providing PDI training to faculty on curriculum tools, instructional delivery, instructional technology, classroom management, and LMS Canvas utilization.
- Responds promptly to Center needs related to Education Department responsibilities, such as interpretation and application of procedures, regulations, and classroom management.
Institutional LMS Management
- Oversees the implementation, maintenance, and improvement of the Learning Management System (LMS) for both traditional and hybrid programs.
- Develops training materials and delivers sessions to faculty and staff on effectively using the LMS.
- Ensures course materials, assessments, and resources are properly uploaded, organized, and accessible within the LMS.
- Troubleshoots technical issues related to the LMS and coordinates with IT or external providers for timely resolutions.
Curriculum Development
- Leads and supports Education Team development of CTE curriculum and corresponding materials, and assessment instruments. This includes conducting labor market information (LMI) research to identify occupational program viability in terms of demand, growth and wages and ensuring that innovating instructional strategies align with industry standards and CET’s mission.
Quality Assurance and Presentation
- Incorporates quality and creativity in the presentation of completed projects.
- Writes explicitly; presents numerical data effectively; proofreads own work and/or that of others in the Education Department or other departments as directed by supervisor; recommends corrections in content, composition, grammar, spelling, and format.

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:
- A Bachelor’s degree in Education or a related field.
- A Master’s Degree in Education preferred, or teaching credential.
- Knowledge of (or willingness to learn a variety of software packages) including MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams), Google Docs, Adobe Acrobat, Canvas LMS, etc. Ability to format standard letters, reports, spreadsheets and tables, and presentations using one of the above software packages that best conveys the intended information.
