Position: Research Assistant, Democratic Resilience

Schedule: Part-time, 7-month internship

Location: Hybrid (Washington DC)

Compensation: $5,000 total for the 7-month period

 

CEPA’s Democratic Resilience program is seeking a Research Assistant to assist with research on aspects of Russian politics and warfighting. This is a seven-month internship. Candidates must have strong English and Russian language skills and a good grasp of current events in Russian politics and foreign policy. Candidates with postgraduate training in qualitative methodologies in the social sciences—and in particular with the design and implementation of coding frameworks and event databases—will be particularly welcome. 

 

The successful candidate will be highly organized, familiar with the functions of a public policy non-profit organization, willing to work across cultures, capable of balancing multiple tasks simultaneously, and with a deep interest in US-European relations. The candidate must be proactive, detail-oriented, and able to work both independently and as part of a team.

 

The Research Assistant will have the opportunity to attend internal team meetings, professional development workshops, and DC-based events.

Key responsibilities:

·     Conduct comprehensive research and analysis on key issues;

·     Assist in managing day-to-day programmatic activities, including coordinating communication with staff members, partners, and external experts;

·     Coordinate the planning and implementation of convenings, including public events, roundtable discussions, workshops, and conferences;

·     Assist with outreach to partners and maintain regular contact with network of fellows, researchers, and other contributors;

  • Prepare briefings for senior leadership on program issues and engagements;

·     Provide other research, organizational, and programmatic support as needed. 

  • Help with planning and implementing program/ team events, workshops, and webinars;

·     Provide support with research for program/ team publications, projects, and convenings;

 

Qualifications:

·     Strong English and Russian language skills and a good grasp of current events in Russian politics and foreign policy.

·     Postgraduate training in qualitative methodologies in the social sciences – particularly in the design and implementation of coding frameworks and event databases – is preferred.

·     Excellent research and writing skills.

·     Excellent organizational and project management skills, including a high level of attention to detail and follow-up.

·     Ability to handle sensitive information, meet deadlines, and maintain grace under pressure.

·     A flexible, creative, solution-oriented, and positive approach to approaching problems and challenges.

·     Willingness to respond to an evolving set of priorities.
