CENTER FOR FAMILY LIFE IN SUNSET PARK, a nationally recognized social service program in Sunset Park Brooklyn, seeks a flexible, creative, motivated team member to join our staff of professional artists, social workers, and young adult youth workers in a community-based after-school and summer camp program at PS 971 in Sunset Park, Brooklyn.
Exemption: Non-Exempt
Location/Department: PS 971
Supervises: Instructors, Group Leaders, Youth Workers
I. SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES include but are not limited to:
- Be an active member of the leadership team along with the program director and activity specialists overseeing Center for Family Life’s program components at 971.
- Create and implement literacy-based activities for participants in kindergarten through fifth grade
- Create activities that promote teamwork, communication, and experimentation in large and small group settings
- Prepare and print up-to-date lesson plans for each activity
- Create interactive/hands-on activities to keep participants engaged in an after-school setting
- Utilize group-management skills to facilitate educational activities in a non-traditional classroom setting
- Support the Program Director to supervise part-time group leaders and assistants in afterschool, vacation and summer programs.
- Support the Program Director in facilitating a staff meeting once a week and helping to create and implement special events, staff training, and other community-building activities for the program and school.
- Support the Program Director in supervising daily afterschool program, which includes a full menu of learning enrichment, arts, sports, and leadership development activities, homework assistance, and supper program.
- In collaboration with colleagues, plan and implement program-wide workshops, celebrations and other family engagement events.
- Provide crisis intervention with onsite participants and make referrals, as necessary
- Some evening hours are required throughout the year.
II. QUALIFICATIONS
- Degree: Bachelor's Degree minimum
- Strong STEM/Literacy and Youth Development background; experience in the arts a plus
- Skills working with elementary school-aged participants and engaging them in critical thinking through engaging activities
- Interest and commitment to learning and working within a social group work model
- Highly organized and able to manage time efficiently
- Experience with and passion for facilitation of groups with children
- Ability to be a genuine and positive member of a team, be flexible
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Bilingual Spanish/English or Chinese/English preferred
- Flexibility and ability to work well as a member of a team of different disciplines (artists, teachers, young adult staff)
- Has an interest in managing and creating positive experiences for groups
III. RELATIONSHIP WITH OTHERS

IV. WORKING CONDITIONS
- Flexible working in an office setting and non-traditional classroom spaces
- May be exposed to all weather conditions and might be required to work in various temperatures in order to facilitate activities in various locations inside and outside of the school building
- Full-time position includes 35 hours of work per week on a variable schedule, with one evening meeting scheduled per week.
V. SCOPE OF RESPONSIBILITY
- This role focuses on engaging participants in activities and learning opportunities
- Individual supervision and ongoing professional development opportunities are provided.

Salary and Benefits
- $46,000 - $55,000, Salary is commensurate with experience and education
