The Center for Family Representation Inc. (CFR) is an award-winning, innovative law and policy organization that serves primarily Black and Brown families and youth in Queens, Manhattan, the Bronx, and Staten Island with an interdisciplinary legal defense model that serves more than 2400 clients every year. CFR was originally founded in 2002 to dramatically change the trajectory of indigent parents being prosecuted by the City’s Administration for Children’s Services (ACS). Our goal is to defend and protect our clients’ rights, reduce the harm of family separation and prevent or minimize the time any child spends in the foster system.

Position Summary:

Reporting to the Director of Development the Institutional Giving Manager is a front-line fundraiser with expertise in nurturing partnerships and prospecting for foundation grants and corporate sponsorships. Primarily responsible for securing funding from institutional sources including foundations, corporations, community sources and in some cases, government agencies providing grants and discretionary funding. The Institutional Giving Manager oversees the portfolio from sourcing, to securing grants, completing grant reporting requirements and all short- and long-term stewardship.

The ideal candidate will be experienced in sourcing and securing institutional funding with excellent grant writing, oral communication, interpersonal, research and organizational skills and is a collaborative team player. Responsibilities and duties will include:

Institutional Giving:

  • Work with the Director of Development to create the annual institutional giving fundraising plan
  • Develop and update the schedule of grant applications and reporting deadlines for current and potential funders
  • Write grant letters of interest and applications, compile all required materials and submit
  • Ensure receipt, recording, and recognition of grants from institutional funders
  • Prepare required grant reports
  • Execute foundation and corporate grant agreements
  • Maintain updated records of institutional funder donations and steward activities.

Collaboration and accountability with internal staff members:

  • Consult early with other staff members and collaborate with about materials they need to prepare for an application or report
  • Collaborating with program staff as needed for proposal development and including fiscal and operations staff in establishing all grant deliverables
  • Work with fiscal staff members to organizational project budgets for applications and financial reports for grant reports
  • Participate in team meetings, planning meetings and project development meetings
  • Work with the DOD to complete required Board reports
  • Keep the Communications Director informed of grants as they are awarded so that they may be recognized in social media and newsletters
  • Attend relevant organizational events that may occur on nights and weekends.

Build and strengthen relationships with potential and current institutional funders:

  • Establish and maintain relationships between institutional funders and the Executive Director, Director of Development and when necessary program staff and The Board
  • Attend Development Committee and Board meetings as requested by the Development Director and events managed and organized by or featuring institutional partners
  • Conduct regular communication with current and potential funders to update them on CFR’s projects and invite them to CFR events when appropriate
  • Develop new opportunities, deepen relationships with current and potential funders
  • Develop a method of of engaging Board members in stewardship activities
  • Become active in the fundraising community in NYC through professional development opportunities, networking and memberships.

Additional Responsibilities:

  • Participation in or take responsibility for any additional assignments from the Director of Development
  • Potential to hire, train and supervise an Institutional Giving Intern if deemed needed by Director of Development
  • Attend Board Development Committee, Board or Executive Management meetings as required by the Executive Director and/or the Director of Development
  • Working partially remote and partially in office as required by the Director of Development

Qualifications

  • A minimum of 3 years of experience in relevant fundraising activities including grant writing and a proven track record of accomplishment in this area
  • BSc/BA degree in a related field
  • Demonstrated experience raising funds and examples of positive outcomes
  • Excellent working knowledge Microsoft Suite and Google Workspace
  • Working knowledge of a CRM platform; Giftworks a plus
  • Exceptional writing, editing, and proofreading skills, as well as ability to synthesize a range of information into tight summaries and compelling proposals
  • Proficient in identifying institutional funding sources and in grant research
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills, including collaborating with team members across an organization

Annualized Salary - $75,500-$93,100
