Position Summary:

Center For Family Services is seeking experienced and professional Residential Counselor for the Triad Group Home Program.  The Residential Counselor position requires patience, dedication, understanding, and a passion for engaging and providing supervision and structure for youth living in a residential treatment setting. The Residential Counselor provides direct supervision and supportive counseling services, instructs and guides youth informally throughout their day-to-day activities, and co-leads recreation, and physical education activities. This is a 24-hour residential group home for youth ages 16-20. The home serves youth who identify as Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, and Queer/Questioning, Inter Sexual and Asexual (or any youth in the LGBTQQIA spectrum); youth have a history of trauma; youth with emotional and behavioral health challenges. In addition, Triad House works with youth to deal with and overcome the effects of physical, emotional, and sexual abuse. Triad House provides a nurturing, supportive, and structured environment where our youth can develop trust, grow, and become positive and live independently.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Comply with funding source, contract and or program's Annex A

  • Complete required documentation within established timeframes per Federal, State, County, and agency regulations, policy, and procedure

  • Core Responsibilities for Job Role:

    • Residential Support: 

      • Provide 24/7 supervision and support within the residential setting, ensuring the safety and security of youth. Assist in daily living activities, such as mealtime, hygiene, and recreation. Conduct supervision checked based on program policy. 

      • Provides transportation to and from appointments

    • Individualized Care: 

      • Implement individualized treatment plans under the guidance of the treatment team, addressing the specific needs and goals of each resident. Foster positive relationships through trust, empathy, and clear communication.

      • Instructs guides and counsels youth informally throughout their interactions in day to day activities

    • Behavioral Management: 

      • Utilize appropriate behavior management techniques to address and de-escalate challenging behaviors. Collaborate with the treatment team to reinforce therapeutic interventions in the daily routine.

    • Crisis Intervention: 

      • Respond promptly and effectively to crisis situations, implementing de-escalation strategies and ensuring the well-being of youth. Communicate incidents and observations to the appropriate staff and maintain accurate incident reports.

      • Provides 1:1 supervision and engages youth as needed

    • Group Activities: 

      • Facilitate and participate in structured group activities, promoting social skills, teamwork, and a sense of community among youth. Encourage positive peer interactions and provide constructive feedback.

      • Co-leads recreation and physical education activities scheduled during shift as part of the daily house structure

    • Documentation: 

      • Maintain accurate and detailed records of resident interactions, behaviors, and progress. Ensure compliance with documentation requirements and contribute to the overall assessment and treatment planning process.

      • Complete all required documentation (ie shift notes, incident reports, etc.) by the end of each shift

    • Communication and Collaboration: 

      • Communicate regularly with the treatment team, including therapists, psychologists, and support staff, to share observations, updates, and concerns. Collaborate in team meetings to enhance the overall care and support provided to youth.

    • Cultural Sensitivity: 

      • Demonstrate cultural competence and sensitivity to the diverse backgrounds of the youth in the program. Foster an inclusive and respectful environment for all youth. of the youth.

    • Other related duties as assigned

Program Responsibilities: 

  • Youth orientation (within 1st 24 hours of admission)

  • Milieu activities (daily)

  • Community integration via focused recreational activities (weekly)

  • Direct youth supervision (daily)

  • Pre-Vocational skills training (5 hours weekly)

  • Provision of Ansell-Casey or Botvin Life Skills training: a minimum of 3 hours weekly as applicable/appropriate for youth age ranges

  • Three (3) psycho-educational activities, consistent with the treatment focus, directed by bachelor's level staff. Additional group activities will be provided to support: age- appropriate pro-social learning, problem solving, life-skill development, and coping strategies.

REQUIREMENTS: 

  • BA with 1 years' experience providing direct care to youth in a behavioral health agency or institutional setting.

    Or

    • HS with 3 years' experience providing direct care to youth in a behavioral health agency or institutional setting.

    • At least three years' experience working with youth and with individuals in the behavioral health field

    • Must have ability to provide leadership, be a role model, and relate positively to youth
    • Current driver's license with a good driving record of at least three years
    • Vehicle with current insurance and registration 
    • Must be fully vaccinated and boosted
    • Must be able to provide three professional references that speak to applicant's experience working with youth
