ORGANIZATIONAL DESCRIPTION :
In 2022, Immigrant Legal Center and Refugee Empowerment Center merged, and the combined nonprofit organization is now CIRA, the Center for Immigrant & Refugee Advancement. Our diverse team of experts provides exceptional, compassionate legal representation, refugee services, and social work services. We take on the most complex immigration cases, resettle refugees from around the world, and ensure all clients have access to much-needed resources. Operating in 10 different offices from Council Bluffs to Scottsbluff, our team of more than 100 full-time employees helps communities welcome immigrants and refugees as they build their lives here. We assist with all forms of family and humanitarian-based immigration, and we never turn any family away due to inability to pay.
POSITION DESCRIPTION
The Community Engagement Coordinator will play a pivotal role in promoting CIRA’s programs and services through impactful education, community collaboration, and advocacy. This individual will strengthen relationships with partners, engage diverse stakeholders, and lead efforts to ensure communities are informed, connected, and equipped to navigate challenges together.
This role is ideal for someone who thrives in building meaningful relationships, is passionate about community advocacy, and can confidently lead initiatives that reflect CIRA’s values of inclusivity, compassion, and trust.
CORE FUNCTIONS OF THE POSITION
A Community Engagement Coordinator’s responsibilities include :
Deliver engaging educational presentations to diverse audiences, including nonprofits, businesses, schools, healthcare, and government agencies.
Promote CIRA’s services through presentations, resource distribution, and active participation in community meetings.
Provide leadership in key initiatives, such as the Omaha Refugee Task Force and Growing Community Connections.
Plan, coordinate, and manage community events in collaboration with CIRA staff and partners, from logistics to follow-up.
Represent CIRA at partner-led events, supporting staff participation in outreach activities like parades, World Refugee Day, and other community gatherings.
Build and maintain trust with partners across sectors, including rural communities, fostering collaboration and exploring new partnership opportunities.
Serve as a key point of contact for inquiries and relationship management across sectors and locations.
Support efforts in community safety planning by creating agendas, convening teams, coordinating rapid response plans, and liaising between local and statewide partners.
Collaborate with partners to support advocacy efforts and develop safety-related communication materials.
Share updates and information with stakeholders and CIRA leadership to inform ongoing engagement strategies.
QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor’s degree in related fields such as Education, Community Engagement, Nonprofit Management, or Social Work, or equivalent professional experience.
2–4 years of experience in community engagement, outreach, or education roles, preferably in nonprofit or immigrant-focused settings.
Demonstrated ability to build and maintain collaborative relationships with diverse groups.
Excellent public speaking and presentation skills, with the ability to adapt content for varied audiences.
Strong organizational and event planning skills, with experience managing logistics and coordinating across teams.
Familiarity with issues facing immigrants and refugees.
Willingness to travel to rural communities as needed.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite; experience with virtual meeting platforms and CRM software is a plus.
Strong commitment to CIRA's mission and values in serving immigrants / refugees / newcomers.
Deep understanding of and ability to work sensitively and well with people of diverse national, ethnic, cultural, religious, gender identities, and socioeconomic backgrounds.
Exhibits strong interpersonal communication skills with colleagues and internal staff.
Embraces departmental and organizational changes, showing adaptability in a rapidly growing and evolving environment.
Ability to prioritize tasks, meet deadlines, and follow through on commitments.

Ability to pass all required background checks.
Must be authorized to work in the United States.

WORKING CONDITIONS
This job consists of frequent driving in addition to sitting at a desk for long periods of time.
Workdays pertain to a Monday – Friday schedule, with some weekends and nights required based on client needs. If needed to work outside of regular office hours, flextime is available.
COMPENSATION
Pay rate starting at $23.56 per hour, commensurate with experience.
