POSITION TITLE: Preferred Communities Case Manager
REPORTS TO: Preferred Communities Program Manager
WORKSITE: Omaha, NE
ORGANIZATIONAL DESCRIPTION: In 2022, Immigrant Legal Center and Refugee Empowerment Center merged, and the combined nonprofit organization is now the Center for Immigrant and Refugee Advancement (CIRA). CIRA’s mission is to empower immigrants and refugees to live confidently through high-quality legal representation, resettlement, and social work and to create welcoming communities through education and advocacy.
POSITION DESCRIPTION: The Preferred Communities Case Manager will report directly to the PC Program Manager. The PC Case Manager provides the following services to eligible refugees, (1) trauma-informed Intensive Case Management (ICM), (2) documentation and reports, and (3) other duties as assigned. The ideal candidate for this position would have exceptional communication, interpersonal, and leadership skills, and maintains a willingness to learn about other cultures and develop strong cultural competency.
PROGRAM DESCRIPTION: Preferred Communities (PC) Program provides trauma-informed, intensive case management for vulnerable refugee groups within their first five years in the United States. We support especially at-risk refugees, including single parents, individuals with disabilities, mental health needs, elderly clients, domestic violence survivors, and secondary migrants. The program aims to empower refugees with exceptional needs to achieve self-sufficiency and successfully integrate into their new community.
CORE FUNCTIONS OF THE POSITION:
Trauma-Informed Intensive Case Management (ICM)
- Provides case management workflows including: (1) Conduct initial and 90-day interim assessments (2) completion of case closure documents, and (3) documentation in the agency-client database system
- Develop personalized self-sufficiency service plans with the client
- Provide intensive client meetings depending on their exceptional needs at least once every 30 days or as needed after the enrollment period, for at least 6 – 12 months or until self-sufficiency is reached
- Connect clients to community resources (i.e., food pantries, thrift stores, faith communities)
- Facilitate cultural communication between clients, partners, and community.
Documentation & Reports
- Prepare accurate, timely case reports adhering to CIRA policies
- Maintain comprehensive case notes in agency-client database
- Assist with the preparations of program reports
- Provide detailed reports to supervisor as needed
Other Duties as Assigned
- Work collaboratively with the PC team, CIRA program staff, and volunteers, to ensure that clients receive the services they need to achieve their goals
- Participate in agency events, trainings, and meetings
- Contribute to a fostering teamwork environment
- Remain compliant with CIRA and PC regulations and policies
- Maintain an excellent reputation of CIRA with clients and community resource members
- Create reports for the PC Program Manager of case file progressions
QUALIFICATIONS
- Formal education in related fields such as Social Work, Human Services, or Social Service, or equivalent professional experience is required.
- 2-5 years of experience providing case management services, preferably in refugee resettlement or immigrant-focused settings.
- Ability to work with multiple languages via an interpreter.
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively with populations experiencing complex trauma is preferred.
- Strong knowledge of community resources and local healthcare systems is preferred.
- Excellent interpersonal communications and customer service skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office 365 (Outlook, Word, Excel, SharePoint); ability to quickly learn new software.
- Strong commitment to CIRA's mission and values in serving immigrants/refugees/newcomers.
- Deep understanding of and ability to work sensitively with people of diverse national, ethnic, cultural, religious, and socioeconomic backgrounds.
- Exceptional multi-tasking skills with ability to think critically and problem-solve.
- Ability to prioritize tasks, meet deadlines, and input data accurately into management systems.
- Demonstrates flexibility, adaptability, and comfort in a rapidly evolving organizational environment.
- Exhibits strong independence, self-discipline, and effective time management.
- Valid driver's license and access to a personal, insured vehicle required.
- Ability to pass all required background checks.
- Must be authorized to work in the United States.
WORKING CONDITIONS
- This job consists of occasional travel to client homes, appointments, or other needed locations. Travel and expense reimbursement is provided.
- Workdays pertain to a Monday – Friday schedule, 8:30 AM - 5:00 PM, with occasional work outside standard hours based on client needs. Flex scheduling is available for client-related activities.
COMPENSATION
- Hourly rate starting at $23.00, commensurate with experience.
- For current CIRA resettlement team members: Your current compensation will be maintained if transferring to this position
