The Center for Jewish History (the Center) is the collaborative home of five in-house Partner organizations – American Jewish Historical Society, American Sephardi Federation, Leo Baeck Institute, Yeshiva University Museum, and YIVO Institute for Jewish Research – whose collections comprise over seven linear miles of archival documents in dozens of languages and alphabet systems, over 500,000 volumes of books, over 10 million digital items, and thousands of artworks and objects, all spanning 5,000 years.
This role offers an excellent opportunity for individuals passionate about art, history, and culture to play a crucial part in the guest experience for Anne Frank The Exhibition, presented by the Anne Frank House in Amsterdam. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
· Operate the POS, purchase order, and inventory management systems to meet the Store's operational and financial goals.
· Supervise and direct the merchandising and visual presentation of products to align with Store standards.
· Collaborate with the Store’s web leadership team to support e-commerce and online activities related to the Store.
· Provide accurate artist and product information to staff and customers, ensuring a knowledgeable visitor experience.
· Deliver the highest level of courtesy and service to all visitors.
· Maintains a well-informed, working knowledge of Partner exhibitions, programs, and other services available at CJH.
· Greets and provides information to guests.
· Answers main phone line and directs calls appropriately.
· Keeps track of visitor statistics
· Assists with general administrative work and restocking.
· Light physical demands include working in coat check and retail space.
· Be fully knowledgeable in register procedures, handle all types of sales and box office transactions, and pack and gift-wrap purchases as specified by the Store Manager.
· Familiarize oneself with procedures for special orders and the Store’s shipping policies.
· Maintain, restock, and upkeep the sales floor to ensure a clean and organized environment.
· Serve as a vital link in the feedback loop to the Store Manager, communicating visitors’ comments, criticisms, and suggestions.
· Support the Store Manager in reordering inventory and developing vendor relationships, with a working knowledge of the Store’s computerized inventory systems and assistance in data processing.
· Perform additional tasks and support the Visitor Experience team as assigned by management as needed.
Qualifications:
· High school diploma or equivalent (required).
· Previous experience in customer service, retail, or sales (preferred).
· Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to engage visitors professionally.
· Basic computer skills, including experience with point-of-sale systems (preferred).
· The ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
· Strong attention to detail and accuracy in handling records and transactions.
· Availability to work flexible hours, including weekends, evenings, and holidays as required.
Physical Requirements:
· Ability to stand for extended periods and perform tasks in both office and public-facing settings.
· Comfortable handling light lifting (up to 25 lbs.).
· Ability to work effectively in a high-traffic environment, interacting with a diverse range of visitors.
