Peer Support Specialist

Part-Time (30 hours per week)/ Non-Exempt / Great Falls


Position Overview: Peer Specialist provides community-based peer support services that are designed to promote the recovery, empowerment, and community integration of individuals who have severe and chronic behavioral health challenges. Will facilitate opportunities for individuals receiving service to direct their own recovery and advocacy process, by teaching and supporting individuals.  Promoting the knowledge of available service options and choices of natural resources in the community and help facilitate the development of a sense of wellness and self-worth

Job Duties: 

  1. Works as part of a multi-disciplinary team to help consumers to develop a personal recovery plan and identify opportunities to provide support as clients work to achieve their recovery goals
  2. Listens and encourages clients to talk about their lives, struggles and goals
  3. Promotes client self-determination and decision-making
  4. Offers encouragement, hope and reassurance to clients who are developing the necessary skills for integration into the community
  5. Models competency in recovery and maintaining ongoing wellness
  6. Must complete and pass medication training test within initial probation period
  7. Liaison with other members of the treatment team to develop an effective support system for the consumer
  8. Monitors and supports consumer through regular visits and reports progress or concerns to the treatment team
  9. Helps clients set and achieve meaningful goals in the areas of mental health recovery, education, daily living skills, substance use, relationships, productivity, and leisure
  10. Assumes responsibility for the workload assigned, working independently and cooperatively with the team
  11. Acts as an advocate for mental health issues in the Many Rivers region
  12. Maintains records, reports, and statistics necessary for program functioning and evaluation, completes client notes in accordance with Many Rivers policy 
  13. Co-operates and participates in evaluation and research
  14. Participates in program meetings, employee education and orientation, which will include a close-working relationship with multi-disciplinary team
  15. Comply with relevant legislation, regulations, and mandatory guidelines
  16. Must disclose personal recovery journey with clients.
  17. Responds to emergency health hazards as defined by the Medical Director or Supervisor
  18. Part-Time at 30 hours per week. 10-hour days, Tuesday thru Thursday.

Minimum Qualifications:  

  1. GED or Highschool diploma required 
  2. 1-2 years’ experience in dealing with mental illness issues and related mental health services.   
  3. Must have a personal recovery experience for mental health and/or substance use.  
  4. Must be in recovery for 2 years.
  5. Without incarceration, hospitalization, or inpatient admission exceeding 72 hours.  
  6. Must not have been incarcerated in the past 2 years.
  7. Must have some knowledge and experience of severe mental illness and treatment, and its impact on consumer/survivors and their families.  
  8. Computer skills an asset. 
  9. Must obtain Certification within 1 month of hired date.    


Hourly Wage: $15.00 DOE 

All Positions at Many Rivers Whole Health must pass Background Checks and Motor Vehicle Record Check.
