The Chief Development Officer (CDO) is responsible for generating funds in support of the YWCA Nashville & Middle Tennessee (YWCA) by designing, planning, leading, and growing innovative development efforts with a focus on major gifts, annual giving, planned giving, donor recognition, cross-sector partnerships / cause marketing, and coordination of funding campaigns while fostering a culture of philanthropy. The CDO aligns initiatives and strategies throughout the organization by developing and delivering innovative strategic direction to ensure the brand is infused into all parts of the organization internally and externally. The CDO will lead the planning, implementation, and execution of comprehensive fundraising programs with multimillion-dollar annual development targets. The CDO will work closely with YWCA program staff to ensure fundraising efforts are aligned with programmatic priorities. The CDO serves as a member of the YWCA’s Executive team.
The CDO is responsible for planning and implementing all aspects of the YWCA Nashville & Middle Tennessee’s development programs for individuals, corporations, selected foundations, and special event sources, and facilitates Endowment, capital campaigns, and planned giving programs.
Together with the CEO, the CDO holds the primary responsibility for donor relations. This position, when requested, will work with Board members to achieve the YWCA’s agency goals.
The Chief Development Officer manages the Development and Marketing department staff.
Job Responsibilities
- Plan and implement multi-faceted fundraising campaigns that align with the YWCA’s short and long-term goals and activities and strategically incorporate prospect research, donor cultivation, gift solicitation, and appropriate and timely stewardship.
- Supervise the Development and Marketing team.
- Aggressively seek new funding sources while maintaining and building relationships with current / past donors.
- Lead the successful implementation of cost-effective fundraising programs that cultivate, solicit, and steward individuals, corporations, and selected foundations.
- Work collaboratively with other departments and staff to identify fundraising opportunities, match them with new / existing funders, and solicit / secure gifts in accordance with and with the utmost respect for the Donor’s Bill of Rights.
- Develop and lead the successful implementation of high-profile, revenue-generating special events.
- Contribute to the YWCA’s annual and multi-year strategic planning and budgeting processes; track, monitor, and report progress.
- Create and track development budgets including all fundraising expenses and revenues; establish goals for all giving categories.
- Cultivate a dynamic relationship with the Board and all relevant committees as directed by the CEO.
- Develop and implement social media fundraising campaigns.
- In cooperation with the CEO and YWCA capital campaign chairs, manage capital campaign development, annual campaign, and endowment strategy, programs, and initiatives.
- Develop processes for identifying, cultivating, and soliciting major gift prospects from the individual, designated foundations, and corporate sectors.
- Work with program managers and develop strategies to increase volunteer involvement in programs and fundraising events.
- Develop appropriate best practices fundraising policies and procedures for the agency.
- Ensure that the agency’s donation management tracking system is in place for all gifts and pledges by source and purpose and provides regular reporting to the organization on the status of fundraising campaigns.
- Provide training to YWCA staff and volunteers in fundraising; educate, motivate, and provide feedback to individuals related to best practices in the fundraising process.
- Create and execute marketing campaigns to drive fundraising efforts for the YWCA and all programs; develop communication plans to ensure targeted audiences understand the YWCA’s case for support in collaboration with YWCA leadership and board Marketing subcommittee.
- Manage relationships with local pro-bono marketing / advertising / PR firms.
- Support for the Marketing & Development Board Subcommittee.
