Job Summary
The Assistant Director will play a key leadership role at CPC, providing strategic oversight and management of all programmatic functions while supporting the Executive Director with administrative operations. This role is responsible for supervising program staff, ensuring the effectiveness and alignment of CPC’s programs with its mission, overseeing program evaluation, and supporting office management to ensure efficient day-to-day operations.
The Assistant Director will be both a visionary leader and an operational manager, committed to CPC’s values of equity, popular education, and social justice. They will work closely with the Executive Director to strengthen organizational capacity, foster staff development, and promote a culture of accountability, care, and collective leadership.
Responsibilities
Program Leadership & Oversight
- Provide strategic leadership to CPC’s programs, ensuring alignment with CPC’s mission, vision, and goals.
- Supervise program staff, including the Program Manager, Program Coordinator, & Program Associate, and other roles as assigned.
- Facilitate regular program staff meetings, fostering collaboration, shared learning, and accountability.
- Support the development, implementation, and evaluation of program strategies to meet grant and community needs effectively.
- Ensure programs are rooted in CPC’s social justice values, centering BIPOC leadership and participatory approaches.
- Oversee grant-related program deliverables and ensure compliance with funder requirements.
- Build strong relationships with community partners, stakeholders, and collaborators to advance CPC’s mission.
Staff Supervision & Development
- Provide direct supervision, coaching, and mentorship to program staff to support their professional growth and well-being.
- Conduct regular check-ins, performance evaluations, and goal-setting meetings with staff.
- Foster a positive, inclusive, and supportive work environment where staff feel valued and empowered.
- Identify professional development opportunities for staff and support team-building efforts.
- Address personnel issues promptly and effectively, ensuring clear communication and resolution.
Program Evaluation & Impact Measurement
- Design and implement systems to track program outcomes, impact, and effectiveness.
- Lead the development of evaluation tools (e.g., surveys, focus groups, data collection methods) to assess program performance.
- Analyze data to inform program improvements, strategic planning, and storytelling for stakeholders and funders.
- Collaborate with the Communications team to share program outcomes and impact stories with broader audiences.
Administrative & Executive Support
- Assist the Executive Director with administrative tasks, including scheduling, correspondence, and meeting preparation.
- Support the development and monitoring of the organizational budget, in collaboration with the bookkeeper and Executive Director.
- Prepare reports, presentations, and other materials for board meetings, funders, and stakeholders.
- Act as a thought partner to the Executive Director, contributing to strategic planning and organizational development.
- Serve as Acting Director in the absence of the Executive Director, as needed.
Office & Operations Management
- Oversee the daily operations of the office, ensuring an organized, efficient, and welcoming work environment.
- Manage office systems, supplies, technology needs, and vendor relationships.
- Support the implementation of organizational policies, procedures, and systems to enhance efficiency and effectiveness.
- Ensure compliance with legal, regulatory, and funding requirements related to office operations and program activities.
- Coordinate with Program Manager and Communications staff to maintain organized, digital, and physical files (e.g., Google Drive, shared folders).
Requirements
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in program management, nonprofit leadership, or a related field.
- Strong background in supervising and supporting staff, with a focus on equity, social justice, and professional development.
- Proven experience in program evaluation, data analysis, and impact measurement.
- Exceptional organizational and administrative skills, with attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple priorities.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to prepare reports and presentations.
- Proficiency in Google Workspace (Docs, Sheets, Drive, Calendar) and other relevant software.
- Commitment to CPC’s mission, values, and social justice principles.
- Some background knowledge of popular education and CRT concepts.
- Some familiarity with concepts of language justice.
- A strong desire to work within a collective as well as the strong ability to be self-directed and motivated.
- Demonstrated ability to lead teams, manage projects, and drive initiatives forward.
- A commitment to fostering an inclusive educational environment that supports collective liberation.
