The Center for People is a dynamic non-profit organization that provides innovative services and programs to the low-income community in Lincoln, Nebraska, addressing basic needs and providing opportunities to achieve economic independence for our clients. 


We are currently looking for a Career Training Specialist. This position is a full-time, 40 hour per week, onsite position. 

I.     GENERAL FUNCTIONS

The Career Training Specialist is responsible for providing comprehensive guidance, support, and accountability to all of the Center for People community. They will play a key role in supporting incarcerated individuals and justice-involved individuals in transitioning to career opportunities upon reentry into the community. This individual will be responsible for facilitating professional development courses, educating participants about the Center for People’s Talent Marketplace program and the various career pathways it offers, and managing data collection efforts related to the services provided. The goal is to help participants explore career interests, enhance their skills, and create individualized plans that align with their long-term career and educational goals.

 
II.    ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

·      Conduct comprehensive intake sessions to explore career interests, educational goals, and barriers to success.

·      Develop and utilize individualized service plans that identify career goals and outline strategies for overcoming barriers

·      Guide participants in resume writing, job interview preparation, and enrollment in education platforms apart of Center for People Education and Training Programs.

·      Facilitate professional development classes for incarcerated individuals, focusing on career readiness, job skills, and personal growth to support successful reentry into the workforce and society upon release.

·      Conduct regular monthly coaching sessions to update service plans and support participants in overcoming challenges.

  • Facilitate check-ins, deliver curriculum, and/or provide 5 Keys Classes authorized by the Nebraska Department of Corrections to support justice-impacted community members in their personal development and reintegration efforts.
  • Provide a continuum of care by offering a holistic approach that addresses the diverse needs of justice-impacted community members, ensuring access to resources, emotional support, and skills development for successful reintegration into the workforce. 

·      Provide barrier reduction assistance based on individualized service plans, promoting Center for People wrap-around services.

·      Use the HMIS Clarity Database and other various data collection tools to track and measure participant progress and outcomes, and measure program impact, to ensure they meet funder requirements.

·      Build and maintain professional relationships with other service organizations to promote consistent and transparent communication.

·      Support the planning and implementation of Education events such as but not limited to: Milestones, Alumni Events, Career Fairs, etc.

·      Participate in outreach efforts to recruit new participants for the program.

·      Promote educational opportunities through various Center for People program platforms.

·      Work collaboratively with other Career Training Specialists and Workforce Development Specialist.

·      Maintain a welcoming and professional environment for program participants.

·      Flexibility in work schedule, including evening and weekend hours as needed to meet organizational and participant needs.

·      Ensure all documentation is completed in accordance with organizational policies and funder requirements.

·      Uphold ethical standards in all interactions, maintaining professional boundaries and integrity.

·      Follow organizational policies and procedures, ensuring compliance with relevant contracts and regulations.


III.    REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES
•   Ability to communicate effectively and professionally both orally and in writing
•   Ability to establish and maintain a good working relationship with internal and external stakeholders
 Ability to promote teamwork and maintain positive working relationships with all employees and departments
Skilled at possessing professionalism, courtesy, tact, and sound judgment
•   Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to interact professionally with diverse populations in a positive, courteous and helpful manner
•   Knowledge of industry trends and best practices related to supporting adult learners in their career development
•   Familiarity with online education platforms and technology
•   Knowledge of local community agencies and resources
•   Knowledge of effective coaching methodologies and best practices to identify and address potential barriers to success
•   Previous experience working with adult learners

 
IV.    DESIRABLE TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE

Bachelor’s degree in Education, Social Work, Organizational Development or related field, with previous work experience in case management, career or education counseling, or related field OR a minimum of 4 years of work experience in case management, career or educational counseling, or related field

 
V.    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

High school diploma or equivalent, with some college coursework preferred Valid Nebraska driver’s license and current motor vehicle insurance

While performing the duties of this job, the volunteer is regularly required to talk and hear, frequently is required to sit, stand, and walk. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus when operating a computer, and working with numbers. Work is primarily in an indoor setting.
