The Center for People is a dynamic non-profit organization that provides innovative services and programs to the low-income community in Lincoln, Nebraska, addressing basic needs and providing opportunities to achieve economic independence for our clients. 


The Center has been fighting poverty in Lincoln, Nebraska since 2003. We are the Food Bank of Lincoln's largest partner, distributing food to more than 5,400 low-income families. We are also home to Lincoln's first Diaper Bank, established to meet the growing need for diapers in our community. Education is the key to helping low-income individuals obtain economic independence. As such, the Center developed educational and training programs to help people obtain employment with a living wage.


We are currently looking for a Facilities Specialist. This position is a full-time, 40 hour per week, onsite position. 


The Facilities Specialist is responsible for maintaining and ensuring the safety and functionality of agency facilities, including buildings, equipment, vehicles, and grounds. They conduct inspections to identify maintenance issues and safety hazards, perform preventive and corrective maintenance, complete minor repairs, complete custodial duties and coordinates with outside vendors when needed.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES


Conduct regular inspections of buildings (including office areas, warehouse, roof, green house, etc.), equipment (including forklifts, pallet jacks, carboard baler, freezer/cooler, etc.) vehicles (including van, trucks, 4-wheeler, etc.), grounds (including parking lot, grassy areas, etc.), specific systems (including plumbing, electrical, alarms, sprinklers, lighting etc.) and cleaning equipment to identify maintenance needs and/or safety hazards

Complete minor/emergency repairs and routine maintenance tasks

Contact and coordinate work with outside vendors to complete larger or specialized projects

Maintain positive relationships with an extensive network of outside vendors and ensure contact information is kept current

Promote a culture of safety by staying up-to-date with health, safety, and environmental regulations and communicate any changes to the Director of Programs

Assist with the facilitation of employee safety training

Obtain and maintain Safety Data Sheets, ensuring accessibility to all employees

Assist with the relocation of office furniture and equipment

Daily custodial duties to include but not limited to; clean and sanitize all restrooms, vacuum and remove all waste from offices and entry areas, clean entry area glass, dust, vacuum and mop in the People’s Pantry and adjoining hallways and wipe down tables in the computer lab and classrooms

Weekly custodial duties to include but not limited to; cleaning the distribution floor, sweeping and mopping the kitchen and front entry floors, vacuum and dust in the conference room, empty recycling and outside trash bins as needed, maintain an inventory of cleaning and other needed supplies

Assist with daily food pick-up, unloading and storing in the food warehouse

Assist with miscellaneous People’s Pantry duties as assigned

Grounds Maintenance

Other duties as assigned


REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES


Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, to interact effectively with employees, clients, and vendors of all levels

Strong decision making and problem-solving skills with ability to make sound judgements under pressure

Knowledge of health, safety, and environmental regulations

Working knowledge of electrical and mechanical systems

Knowledge of cleaning chemical safety and use of cleaning equipment

Self-directed with great attention to detail


DESIRABLE TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE


Previous maintenance or construction work experience, OSHA Certification, proficient in fork lift (and/or other lift equipment) operation

Must be able to lift and carry heavy objects weighing up to 50 pounds or more, such as equipment or supplies. Must be able to bend, stoop, and reach to access equipment, fixtures, or machinery. Must be able to climb ladders, stairs, or scaffolding to access high or difficult-to-reach areas of the facility. Must be able to work in confined spaces, such as crawl spaces or mechanical rooms, which may require crouching or kneeling. Must have manual dexterity and coordination to operate equipment or machinery. Must be able to respond to emergency situations, such as fires, floods, or power outages, which may require physical exertion and the ability to remain calm under pressure. The Facilities Specialist will work both indoors and outdoors and will be exposed to a variety of weather conditions, may be exposed to hazardous chemicals, electrical hazards, and other potential safety hazards, and will be required to work in noisy environments regularly.
