Job Overview:
We are seeking a full-time Recovery Specialist to provide professional peer-to-peer recovery support services using a strengths-based, recovery coaching model for adults participating in the Sussex County Support Team for Addiction Recovery (STAR) Program. This position involves working closely with clients to develop personalized recovery plans, provide guidance, and facilitate access to necessary resources. The ideal candidate will demonstrate a commitment to fostering a supportive environment that promotes healing and growth. This position requires a dedicated professional who is passionate about making a positive impact in the lives of individuals seeking recovery.
Responsibilities:
- Work with STAR Program participants to develop a recovery plan while working collaboratively with a Case Manager to support participants in achieving their goals.
- Assist participants in navigating community resources, including housing, employment, and healthcare services.
- Provide recovery support services based on the participant's preference and his/her assessed needs, empowering them to make self-directed choices about their recovery pathway.
- Support participants as they move through the stages of change to encourage them in their recovery.
- Work together with the case manager to support the participant's engagement in services for up to one year.
- Serve as a positive role model by sharing experiential knowledge, hope, and skills.
- Provide support with face-to-face sessions and/or telephone support based on the participant's personal choice and maintaining follow-up with the participant for one year after starting the STAR program.
- Help the participant maintain healthy community, family, and social functioning.
- Monitor effectiveness of program by inputting data into the Recovery Data Platform (RDP) as well as additional data collection requirements of the Division of Mental Health and Addiction Services (DMHAS).
- Provide on-call support on a rotating basis with other team members.
- Must contribute to a positive work environment.
- Attend staff meetings, team meetings, individual and group supervision, grant required trainings, and in-service trainings.
- Occasional nights and weekends may be required.
Requirements:
- Associates degree preferred, high school diploma or equivalent required.
- Minimum of two (2) years’ sobriety and experience in the guiding principles of recovery that assist individuals to improve their health and wellness.
- NJ Certified Peer Recovery Specialist certification or willingness to obtain.
- Participate in a grant required three (3) day Division of Mental Health and Addiction Services (DMHAS) state mandated training that delineates peer role functions, competencies, responsibilities, and includes an orientation to DMHAS multiple treatment initiatives.
- Able to perform work responsibilities in various locations.
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, with a compassionate approach to client interactions.
- Excellent computer skills, including Microsoft Office.
- Be sensitive, flexible, and responsive to gender, race, ethnicity, socio-economic status, religion, age sexual orientation or any other special needs as reflected in the ability to communicate with staff and/or clients.
- Ability to work as part of a team and independently.
- Must have a valid driver’s license in good standing, safe driving record and adequate motor vehicle insurance.
- Bilingual (English/Spanish) is a plus.
Work Schedule:
This position is full-time and requires on-site attendance.
