Position Overview
The Editors lead a student team of paid staff and / or volunteers in content generation for the University Daily Kansan student news organization. Responsibilities include making assignments to paid staff and volunteers, guiding and coaching staff through assignments and other duties, editing assignments for publication, monitoring events on campus and in Lawrence for breaking news, attending all planning meetings as assigned, updating news budgets, maintaining fresh content on the Kansan.com website, and other duties required for the University Daily Kansan to function as a daily news organization.
Per the State of Kansas, student employees may hold concurrent appointments not to exceed maximum appointment and hours worked levels. However, concurrent student appointments must be of matching FLSA designation (exempt / salaried or non-exempt / hourly).
Job Description
- 40% : Making assignments to content generators.
- 50% : Editing assignments made by content generators.
- 10% : Attending meetings and training.
