Job summary
The CSIS China Power Project seeks a research intern to support the program’s work during the spring and summer of 2025. There is one (1) available part-time position for an internship of at least three months, starting mid to late March, with the potential to extend the internship to a maximum of six months total. Our project utilizes quantitative and qualitative tools to examine the evolving nature of China’s power. We regularly publish data-driven analysis on the ChinaPower website (). In addition to our work on China’s power, our experts also conduct research on Chinese foreign and security policy, cross-Strait relations, Chinese technology policy, U.S.-China relations, maritime security, and the broader Indo-Pacific security architecture, among other issues. This is a fast-paced work environment, and we are looking for a motivated self-starter that can engage in a wide variety of analytic and logistical work. This is a hybrid position, with the expectation that at least 2 days of the week will consist of in-person work at the CSIS offices. The hired candidate will be paid hourly, commensurate with experience ($17.50 / hour for current undergraduate hires, $18.50 / hour for hires with a bachelor’s degree, and $19.50 / hour for hires with a master’s degree).
Essential duties and responsibilities
Essential functions and responsibilities may include, but are not limited to the following
- Assist with research and data analysis for reports, articles, presentations, and podcast episodes
- Create datasets and data visualizations
- Proofread and edit a variety of content
- Maintain the program’s active social media presence
- Monitor, track, and report on events across the Indo-Pacific region, especially those dealing with China
- Provide logistical and administrative support
- Assist with event planning
- Perform a variety of other project-related duties as assigned
