Job Summary
Accountant ensures timely and accurate full cycle accounting for specific government and non- government contracts. Project accounting includes tracking expenses against a budget, tracking revenue against funding, creating invoices for clients, uploading accounts payable invoices, processing payments to vendors, and working with project managers and other stakeholders to ensure the projects are being completed on time, at budget, and within customer specifications.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities:
- Distribute bi-monthly and month end labor reports and non-labor cost reports to project managers for review within the established workflow timelines.
- Process labor and non-labor cost corrections.
- Work with Project managers to create monthly customer invoices.
- Work with project managers to pursue collections on invoices.
- Upload Rebate Application Vendors and Vendor bills.
- Process Checks and ACH payments to rebate vendors.
- Maintain log of remaining budget.
- Maintain and reconcile YTD excel spreadsheet of employee utilization report and labor cost.
- Assist with annual budget preparation.
- Produce and maintain Excel budget template for programs.
- Help conglomerate budget templates into a master file.
- Work with department heads to forecast program budget.
- Prepare budget vs actual report.
- Assist with monthly financial statement preparation.
- Document key accounting processes and controls.
- Assist with cross-training of Accounting and Finance Team.
- Assist with preparation of work papers for annual audits.
- Perform various general ledger account reconciliations.
- Assist with various special projects.
- Perform other related duties as assigned
QUALIFICATIONS
Essential Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Required
- Experience in full cycle accounting, AP, AR, month end close activities, and accrual accounting.
- Experience and understanding in setup, allocation, and segregation of direct and indirect costs.
- Highly analytical and quantitative.
- Effective writing, oral and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously within time constraints.
- Flexibility to respond to changes in priorities and tight deadlines.
- Demonstrate sound professional judgment and high integrity.
- Demonstrate attention to detail, accuracy, and efficiency.
- Ability to work independently, take initiative, set priorities, and see projects through to completion.
- Thorough knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles
- Proficiency with MS Office: Excel, Word, Teams, and Outlook
- Experience using Vlookups, Sumifs, and Pivot Table functions in excel.
Preferred
- Exposure to Accounting Software
- Prior exposure to a Cost Accounting environment and Payroll
- Experience with Deltek Costpoint and ADP
- Experience with cost plus contracts, time and materials contracts, fixed price contracts, accounting and government regulations, pricing proposals, and direct and indirect cost rates.
Education
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting or related field or equivalent work experience required.
- Master’s degree preferred.
Experience:
- 4 -6 years of accounting and finance experience
Licenses, Certificates or Registrations:
- CPA preferred.
