Job Description
The Center for the Future of Arizona (CFA) seeks a part-time Student Worker—GIS and Data
Analyst for academic year 2025-26 with an anticipated start date of August 25, 2025, to
support the development and interpretation of data associated with the Arizona Progress
Meters. This position assists with updating the Progress Meters, analyzing key information, and
creating visualizations to support awareness building and community engagement. This is an
in-person position reporting to Center for the Future of Arizona offices in downtown
Phoenix.
The ideal candidate will have experience with collecting, interpreting, and communicating with
data from various sources and in Geographic Information Systems (GIS) mapping, analysis, and
geodatabase development and administration. Experience working in a dynamic and rapidly
changing team-oriented environment is preferred. This is an in-person position that reports to
the Director, Strategic Data Initiatives.
Essential Duties
• Maintain the Progress Meters by collecting and interpreting the most recent, relevant
data for internal and external communications;
• Support in the analysis of survey results including creating crosstabs, data
visualizations, and reports;
• Organize data in systems that allow multiple staff to access and use it for internal and
external products and communications;
• Interpret data to uncover essential information that can be used to advance
communications, strategic initiatives, and to inform organizational decision-making;
• Develop a Geographic Information Systems (GIS)-based geodatabase that will be used
to analyze and communicate data through maps for internal and external use;
• Support the expansion of a new cloud-based data analysis and visualization platform;
• Create products including maps, charts, and other graphics in support of internal and
external communications, presentations, and reports;
• Provide training in geodatabase and data products for internal staff;
• Support the CFA team in communications, presentations, and outreach activities;
• And other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
This classification is limited to teaching/research aide type work or those positions requiring
highly specialized skills and/or technical knowledge.
Desired Qualifications
• Current Arizona State University undergraduate candidate for bachelor’s degree in GIS,
Urban Planning, Cartography, Data Analytics, Geography, or a related field is preferred;
• Proficiency with Microsoft Excel;
• Working understanding of pivot tables, data organization, and other general information
management skills;
• At least one year of experience in communications, cartography, GIS, research, or
related;
• GIS proficient including in advance analysis, map making, and geodatabase
administration.
• Communicates clearly to perform essential duties.
• Responsive to colleagues and external partners, engaged in work production,
resourceful, flexible and respectful of others.
• Ability to quickly change priorities, which may include and/or are subject to resolution of
conflicts.
Working Environment
• This is an in-person position reporting to Center for the Future of Arizona offices
in downtown Phoenix.
• Activities are performed in an environmentally controlled office setting subject to
extended periods of sitting, keyboarding and manipulating a computer mouse.
• Required to stand for varying lengths of time.
• Occasional bending, reaching, lifting, pushing and pulling up to 20 pounds.
