Senior Transportation Planner Salary : $63.1226 - $81.1391 per hourPlus excellent benefits and 3% salary increases scheduled for July 2025 and July 2026.The Town of Los Gatos is accepting applications for the Senior Transportation Planner position in the Parks and Public Works Department . This is a unique opportunity to shape and develop a vital role within our organization.The Senior Transportation Planner will focus on managing projects and programs that support sustainable transportation opportunities for the Town while addressing and improving mobility, safety, environmental, social, and economic conditions around transportation. The selected candidate will support the Town’s ongoing initiatives around transportation planning, including identifying grant programs and managing transportation planning related projects. The Senior Transportation Planner will assist in the review of transportation studies and develop and implement policies related to Transportation Demand Management and Vehicle Miles Traveled in private developments and manage parking programs. The Senior Transportation Planner will represent the Town on regional transportation committees and take the lead in identifying and securing local and competitive transportation funds. The Senior Transportation Planner reports to the Town Engineer.The Ideal Candidate The Town is looking for an experienced transportation professional who is visionary and innovative with strong leadership skills, passion for community engagement, and commitment to customer service. They will be results-oriented with strong communication skills, including public speaking, writing, listening, persuasion, and facilitation with the following experience : Researching, applying for, and managing State and Federal transportation grants.Presenting to elected and appointed officials, the public, and other stakeholders.Bicycle and pedestrian master planning on a community-wide basis, both the planning phase of the work and project implementation / management.Variety of mobility-related projects and programs, including bicycle, pedestrian and rideshare.VTA process and procedures.Parking program management.Schedule : The normal workweek for this position is Monday through Friday with 4 / 10 or 9 / 80 schedule options; however, you may be occasionally required to attend evening meetings. This position is not eligible for a remote or hybrid work schedule.About the Department The Parks and Public Works Department (PPW) is responsible for the maintenance and improvements of the Town's public parks, facilities, streets, and other infrastructure. Our goal is to efficiently provide residents, businesses, and visitors with the highest quality service possible, with dedication and professionalism. The Department has five service areas : Engineering, Capital Improvement, Streets and Signals, Parks, and Environmental Services.EXAMPLES OF TYPICAL FUNCTIONS Management reserves the right to add, modify, change, or rescind the work assignments of different positions and to make reasonable accommodations so that qualified employees can perform the essential functions of the job.Essential and other important responsibilities and duties may include, but are not limited to, the following : Develops and implements transportation planning projects, programs, systems, and policies. Plans, prioritizes, and manages assigned activities.Provides program area expertise, project support, and coordination and collaborates with Parks and Public Works staff and other Town Departments on complex, highly visible, and politically significant transportation-related policies, projects, and issues.Evaluates the complex and often sensitive and competing aspects of transportation planning decisions.Manages project scoping, budgeting, performance measures, consultant services (procuring and managing), grant applications and compliance, public outreach, and other program activities. Identifies problems and potential solutions, evaluates alternatives, prepares findings, recommends options, and ensures implementation.Designs and prepares maps, charts, outreach flyers, and other graphic materials.Reviews, analyzes, and responds to project applications, ensuring compliance with ordinances and standards and making recommendations that balance and optimize the needs of all transportation users and of the community at large.Provides outreach to and solicits from stakeholders, including representatives of business, schools, and community organizations regarding transportation-related needs and concerns; responds to transportation-related inquiries from the public.Presents transportation plans, policies, programs, options, and considerations to a wide range of audiences including staff, contractors and consultants, executive management, Town Council, other agencies, members of the public, and the business community. Facilitates community outreach meetings, and professionally responds to community and stakeholder questions and concerns, with appropriate follow-up action.Manages funding for and implementation of the Town’s Safe Routes to School program.Participates in and contributes to the implementation of multi-modal transportation programs and projects in the Town’s General Plan Update (Circulation Element) and various other Town-wide planning documents. Participates in updating the Traffic Mitigation Fee ordinance and any future transportation-related mitigation fees.Reviews, promotes, and recommends design and service features of new private developments supporting the use of multi-modal transportation.Coordinates planning for bicycle and pedestrian facilities in cooperation with other Town Departments, regional agencies, and community organizations.Oversees the work of and administers contracts for transportation and parking consultants.Develops policies, procedures, and operational actions related to effective parking management, including periodic review of parking related policy issues such as rates, time limits, enforcement hours, loading zones, and other issues.Identifies and leverages funds to implement planned strategies through drafting and coordinating submittals for grant funding from various local, state, and federal funding sources.Oversees the Town’s Parking Programs.Assists in the planning and construction of parking-related capital projects including preparation of purchase requisitions, requests for proposals, development of the scope of work, professional service agreements and coordination with other Town Departments as appropriate.Attends meetings of the Town Council, the Development Review Committee, Planning Commission and / or the Complete Streets and Transportation Commission and other Town Commissions as directed.Participates in regional planning and working groups and serves as the liaison for the boards and working groups as requested.Plans projects for consultants; develops and communicates project scope and timeline(s); and reviews delivered project as compared to project contracted.Develops and submits transportation-related grant applications; oversees proper execution and expenditure of grant funds received.Manages updates to pedestrian and bicycle master plans; develops, updates, distributes, and promotes Town programs, policies, educational materials, and projects to improve pedestrian, bicycle, and other forms of mobility and to encourage safe practices of all forms of mobility; serve as staff liaison to the Town’s Complete Streets and Transportation Commission.Manages capital projects as appropriate.Builds and maintains positive working relationships with co-workers, other Town employees, elected officials, and the general public, exhibiting exceptional customer service and communication skills.May be assigned as a Disaster Service Worker, as required.Performs other related duties as assigned.Minimum Qualifications : Any combination of training and experience that would provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the required qualifications would be : Education : Any combination of training and experience equivalent to a Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university in transportation planning, city and regional planning, urban studies, civil engineering, or closely related field.Experience : Five (5) years of increasingly responsible experience in transportation development programs, including two (2) years of project management. A Master’s Degree from an accredited college or university is desirable.License and Certification : A California Driver's License and a satisfactory driving record are conditions of initial and continued employment.Possession of a Certificate of Registration as Professional Transportation Planner or Professional Engineer in the State of California, or certification from the American Institute of Certified Planners is highly desirable.#J-18808-Ljbffr
