The Center for Women and Families provides free services to people of all identities who have experienced intimate partner violence and sexual assault. We help our clients and their dependent children become survivors through trauma-informed advocacy. Our goal is to mitigate the impact of their trauma by reducing their risk factors and building their resiliency. We serve anyone in Jefferson, Bullitt, Spencer, Shelby, Oldham, Henry, and Trimble counties in Kentucky and Floyd and Clark counties in Indiana.

Position Summary:

The Vice President of Accounting and Financial Reporting will oversee the organization’s accounting functions and financial reporting processes. This leader will ensure the integrity of financial information, compliance with grant regulations, and effective resource management. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in nonprofit accounting, grant management, and strategic financial leadership.

Key Responsibilities:

Financial Management

  • Oversee the preparation, accuracy, and completeness of financial statements, budgets, annual audit and reports.
  • Ensure compliance with generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP), nonprofit accounting standards, and federal/state regulations.

Grant Oversight:

  • Manage the financial aspects of over 21 federal and state grants, including budgeting, reporting, and compliance.
  • Collaborate with Program leadership to develop and monitor grant budgets, ensuring alignment with organizational goals, stated outcomes and funding requirements.

Strategic Leadership:

  • Provide strategic financial insights and recommendations to the Executive team.
  • Support long-term financial planning and sustainability initiatives, helping to align financial strategies with organizational mission and objectives.

Internal Controls and Compliance:

  • Establish and maintain robust internal controls to safeguard organizational assets and ensure compliance with financial policies.
  • Conduct regular reviews and audits of financial processes, recommending improvements as necessary.

Audit Coordination:

  • Manage the annual audit process, working with external auditors to ensure a smooth and efficient audit.
  • Prepare necessary documentation and reports for audit compliance and oversight.

Team Development:

  • Lead, mentor, and develop a high-performing accounting team, fostering a culture of collaboration, transparency, and continuous improvement.
  • Provide training and resources to staff on financial management and compliance issues.

Stakeholder Engagement:

  • Prepare and present financial reports to the Board of Directors, funders, and stakeholders, highlighting key financial metrics and implications for organizational strategy.
  • Act as the primary financial liaison for grantors, ensuring timely and accurate financial reporting and communication.

Qualifications


  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance, or a related field; Master’s degree or CPA preferred.
  • Minimum of 10 years of accounting experience, with at least 5 years in a leadership role within a nonprofit organization.
  • Strong knowledge of nonprofit accounting principles, federal and state grant compliance, and financial reporting requirements.
  • Proven experience in managing multiple grants and financial reporting for federal and state funding sources.
  • Excellent analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong leadership and team management abilities, with a commitment to staff development.
  • Exceptional communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to present complex financial information clearly.
