The Community Advocate – Focus on DV or SA plays a key role in helping to achieve our vision of thriving survivors in safe communities.

The Center for Women and Families provides free services to people of all identities who have experienced intimate partner violence and sexual assault. We help our clients and their dependent children become survivors through trauma-informed advocacy. Our goal is to mitigate the impact of trauma by reducing risk factors and building resiliency. We serve anyone in Jefferson, Bullitt, Spencer, Shelby, Oldham, Henry, and Trimble counties in Kentucky and Floyd and Clark counties in Indiana.

The Community Advocate – Focus on DV or SA is responsible for providing trauma-informed case management, supportive counseling, and group facilitation to individuals impacted by domestic violence or sexual assault. This position supports survivors by collaborating with internal teams and external community partners to meet program goals and enhance service outcomes.

Duties and Responsibilities

Direct Client Services :

  • Maintain a caseload, including completing intakes, assessments, and follow-ups.
  • Develop client-led case plans with SMART (Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant, Time-Bound) goals.
  • Provide crisis intervention, supportive counseling, advocacy, and referrals.
  • Coordinate transportation and financial assistance to support client needs.
  • Facilitate evidence-based support groups and workshops for clients, both internally and in collaboration with community partners.
  • Crisis Response :

  • Assess safety concerns and immediate needs for clients.
  • Provide crisis counseling, de-escalation, and advocacy.
  • Co-create safety plans based on client-identified safety concerns.
  • Provide legal advocacy and organize services under the Prison Rape Elimination Act (PREA).
  • Documentation :

  • Maintain accurate, timely documentation of client interactions in appropriate databases.
  • Ensure compliance with state reporting guidelines for abuse and neglect.
  • Community Engagement and Collaboration :

  • Represent The Center’s services in external initiatives and establish collaborative partnerships.
  • Communicate services and referral processes to community partners.
  • Training and Development :

  • Participate in shadowing, coaching, and professional development opportunities.
  • Contribute to a supportive and collaborative team culture.
  • Mobile Support Services :

  • Provide mobile advocacy services, traveling within the nine-county service area using company vehicles.
  • Additional Responsibilities :

  • Support The Center’s mission by engaging in cross-program collaboration, participating in team and agency meetings, and maintaining ongoing professional development.
  • Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • 3-5 years of experience in a related field preferred.
  • Strong critical thinking, verbal, and written communication skills.
  • Proficiency in Office 365 and other basic technology tools.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
  • Valid driver’s license and a driving record that meets agency automobile insurance standards.
  • Commitment to completing 16 hours of continuing education annually, with 6 hours focused on sexual assault.
