The Domestic Violence Advocate  plays a key role in helping to achieve our vision of thriving survivors in safe communities.

The Center for Women and Families provides free services to anyone who has experienced intimate partner violence and sexual assault. We help our clients and their dependent children become survivors through trauma-informed advocacy. Our goal is to mitigate the impact of trauma by reducing risk factors and building resiliency. We serve anyone in Jefferson, Bullitt, Spencer, Shelby, Oldham, Henry, and Trimble counties in Kentucky and Floyd and Clark counties in Indiana.

The Domestic Violence Advocate is responsible for facilitating evidence-based group interventions and providing direct client services to victims of domestic violence and their children or families. They support clients through crisis intervention, advocacy, and case management while collaborating with internal and external teams to meet program goals and improve outcomes.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Provide crisis intervention, safety planning, case management, de-escalation, transportation, advocacy, and supportive services.
  • Conduct client program enrollment and behavioral health screenings, making appropriate referrals for services outside The Center’s scope.
  • Engage in bi-weekly grant team meetings to discuss project goals, outcomes, and timelines.
  • Support daily living needs of individuals experiencing homelessness due to intimate partner violence and / or sexual assault in a 24 / 7 emergency shelter.
  • Manage a caseload of clients working toward self-directed goals under direct supervision.
  • Maintain prompt and accurate written, verbal, and electronic communication.
  • Record client interactions and service activities in appropriate databases.
  • Participate in grant performance submissions and ensure compliance with reporting requirements
  • Collaborate with program staff on client entry into emergency shelter programs.
  • Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree required.
  • Strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
  • Proficiency in maintaining accurate documentation and utilizing client databases.
  • Ability to work collaboratively and independently in a fast-paced environment.
  • Experience in crisis intervention and group facilitation is highly desirable.
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to meet agency insurance standards.
