Position Title: Equipment Operator

Department: Fertilizer Department

Reports To: Fertilizer Manager

Status: Full-time; Hourly

Job Summary:

The Equipment Operator is a key role within the Fertilizer Department, responsible for the efficient and accurate loading of trucks and the conditioning of litter in the bunkers. This position also involves taking samples of litter to ensure quality standards are met. The Scale Operator plays a crucial part in maintaining the operational flow and ensuring the overall efficiency of the fertilizer production process.

Primary Job Functions:

• Loading Trucks:

  • Operate the scale system to accurately weigh and load trucks.
  • Ensure trucks are loaded in a timely manner to meet schedule demands.

• Bird Mortality Management:

  • Pick up and properly dispose of bird mortality according to company procedures.
  • Ensure compliance with environmental and safety regulations in disposal processes.

• Litter Sampling:

  • Collect and label litter samples from bunkers as per guidelines.
  • Prepare samples for laboratory analysis to monitor quality.

• Manure Handling:

  • Turn and roll manure to facilitate proper composting and aeration.
  • Monitor and adjust manure conditions to meet composting standards.

• Composting and Fertilizer Blending:

  • Assist in the composting process, ensuring optimal conditions for decomposition.
  • Blend different types of fertilizer to achieve desired nutrient profiles.

• Minor Equipment Maintenance:

  • Perform routine checks on equipment, such as checking oil levels and greasing loaders.
  • Report any equipment malfunctions to the Fertilizer Manager

• Bale Staging Assistance:

  • Aid in the staging and organization of bales for processing.
  • Ensure bales are properly stored and accessible for production needs.

Additional Responsibilities:

• Maintain cleanliness and organization in the work area.
• Adhere to all safety protocols and guidelines to ensure a safe working environment.
• Participate in training sessions to enhance job knowledge and skills.
• Assist other team members and departments as needed to support overall company operations.

Qualifications:

• High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
• Previous experience in a similar role or in agricultural operations is beneficial.
• Ability to operate and maintain heavy machinery and equipment.
• Strong attention to detail and ability to follow precise instructions.
• Effective communication skills and ability to work well in a team environment.

Working Conditions:

• The Equipment Operator will work primarily outdoors in various weather conditions.
• The role involves physical labor, including lifting, bending, and operating machinery.
• Protective gear and safety equipment will be provided and must be worn as required.
