Job Summary
The Flock Services Technician is responsible for managing and transporting chickens between different housing areas, ensuring their well-being, health, and overall condition. This role is essential to maintaining ethical treatment standards and contributes to the organization's goal of producing safe, high-quality eggs.
Essential Job Functions
- Ensure the fair and ethical treatment of livestock, adhering to USDA, FDA, and other relevant standards.
- Safely transport birds between housing areas, minimizing stress and injury.
- Regularly clean and sanitize feeders, waterers, and housing structures.
- Use power washing to maintain a sanitary environment.
- Administer vaccines to chickens according to schedule.
- Implement protocols for cage-free birds to adapt to their environment.
- Maintain and clean culling carts regularly.
- Perform additional tasks as required.
Required Qualifications
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to lift and carry weights up to 50 pounds regularly and up to 75 pounds occasionally.
- Physical stamina for prolonged standing, walking, bending, and handling chickens.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bilingual in English and Spanish.
Work Environment
The role involves working in a barn setting with exposure to extreme temperatures, humidity, and weather changes. It requires handling animals, manure, dust, and varying levels of cleanliness. The environment may be noisy and odorous.
