Pay Grade: Teacher Schedule  Primary Purpose: Provide students with appropriate learning activities and experiences in the agricultural area assigned to help them fulfill their potential for intellectual, emotional, physical, and social growth. Enable students to develop competencies and skills to function successfully in agricultural profession. Qualifications: Education/Certification: Bachelor’s degree from accredited university Valid Texas teaching certificate in agricultural science Special Knowledge/Skills: Exhibit strong work ethic, leadership and organizational skills Ability to work in multi-teacher department and willingness to be a part of a team concept Good communication and interpersonal skills General knowledge of curriculum and instruction Track the budget for the welding program each year Coordinate, maintain inventories, and keep record of the welding resale accounts for classroom and shop projects Purchase supplies and equipment for the classroom, office and shop facilities Inventory the supplies and equipment of the agriculture program Cooperate in maintaining, planning, and improving the physical facilities Serve as an FFA Advisor Assist in training competitive LDE and CDE teams Assist in supervising SAEPs Assist with awards and scholarships Attend camps, conventions, livestock shows and other FFA functions Experience: At least one year student teaching or approved internship Major Responsibilities and Duties: Instructional Strategies Develop and implement lesson plans that fulfill the requirements of district’s curriculum program and show written evidence of preparation as required. Prepare lessons that reflect accommodations for differences in student learning styles. Present subject matter according to guidelines established by Texas Education Agency, board policies, and administrative regulations. Plan and use appropriate instructional and learning strategies, activities, materials, and equipment that reflect understanding of the learning styles and needs of students assigned. Conduct assessment of student learning styles and use results to plan instructional activities. Work cooperatively with special education teachers to modify curricula as needed for special education students according to guidelines established in Individual Education Plans (IEP). Work with other members of staff to determine instructional goals, objectives, and methods according to district requirements. Plan and supervise assignments of teacher aide(s) and volunteer(s). Use technology to strengthen the teaching/learning process. Serve as advisor to local Future Farmers of American (FFA) chapter, including planning and conducting leadership, citizenship, cooperative, career development, and competitive activities for students at local, regional, and state level. Student Growth and Development Help students analyze and improve study methods and habits. Conduct ongoing assessment of student achievement through formal and informal testing. Assume responsibility for extracurricular activities as assigned. Sponsor outside activities approved by the campus principal. Be a positive role model for students, support mission of school district. Classroom Management and Organization Create classroom environment conducive to learning and appropriate for the physical, social, and emotional development of students. Manage student behavior in accordance with Student Code of Conduct and student handbook. Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities. Assist in selection of books, equipment, and other instructional materials. Maintain a system for accurate and complete record-keeping for student clinical hours as required for certification. Accompany and supervise students at all off-campus activities including contests, workshops, and field trips associated with the agricultural science program and FFA. Communication Establish and maintain open communication by conducting conferences with parents, students, principals, and teachers. Maintain a professional relationship with colleagues, students, parents, and community members. Use effective communication skills to present information accurately and clearly. Professional Growth and Development Continues to acquire professional knowledge and learn of current developments in the agriculture field by attending seminars, workshops or professional meetings.  Participate in staff development activities to improve job-related skills. Keep informed of and comply with state, district, and school regulations and policies for classroom teachers. Keep informed on applicable federal and state laws and regulations regarding agriculture education, safety and facilities. Compile, maintain, and file all physical and computerized reports, records, and other documents required. Attend and participate in faculty meetings and serve on staff committees as required. Other Follow district safety protocols and emergency procedures  Maintain regular and reliable attendance.  Supervisory Responsibilities: Supervise assigned teacher aide(s). Mental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors: Tools/Equipment Used: Personal computer and peripherals, standard instructional equipment; agricultural equipment Posture: Prolonged standing; frequent kneeling/squatting, bending/stooping, pushing/pulling, and twisting Motion: Frequent walking; repetitive hand motions; frequent keyboarding and use of mouse; overhead reaching Lifting: Frequent heavy lifting (45 pounds and over); may lift and move agriculture equipment and animals Environment: Work outside and inside; exposure to extreme temperatures (hot, cold, and inclement weather), humidity, and prolonged sunlight; exposure to biological hazards; work around machinery with moving parts; work around moving objects or vehicles; work on uneven or slippery surfaces; work around animals; may work alone; frequent districtwide and statewide travel Mental Demands: Maintain emotional control under stress; work prolonged or irregular hours
