SUMMARY/OBJECTIVE
This position will work directly with the Foreman in coordinating the work of operation and maintenance personnel, including contractor crews, to assure safe, efficient job performance producing quality results. Work involves climbing poles, bucket and line truck operations, and handling high voltages during the construction of electrical distribution facilities. Responsible for enforcement of safety policies and seeing that construction standards are followed. Considerable independent action and leadership is required. Must understand the empowerment concept and encourage other team members to take initiative in planning, coordination, and problem solving for crew activities.
DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES
- Construction, maintenance, and repair of power distribution systems.
- Operate and maintain the existing distribution system and construction of new facilities.
- Perform work on energized and non-energized circuits.
- Climb poles, operate a line truck, bucket, back yard machine and other related equipment.
- Coordinate the work to assure safe, efficient job performance producing quality results.
- Continually learn to read and interpret electrical power circuit plans and specifications.
- Continually learn the methods, materials, and equipment used.
- Continually learn construction standards, code requirements and specifications.
- Perform any other related duties as required or assigned.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Distribution line experience required.
- Technical knowledge of electricity and electronics is preferred.
- Work well with others.
- Strong appreciation for the safety of self and co-workers.
- Strong communication skills (verbal and written).
- Fundamental knowledge of electricity.
- Minimum 5 years’ experience in the electrical services industry required.
- OSHA Competent Person Certified is preferred.
- Strong leadership and interpersonal skills must be very detail-oriented.
- Possess strong organizational and time management skills.
- Ability to understand plans/blueprints to ensure projects meet all building/code requirements.
- Proven success in meeting critical deadlines under stressful conditions.
- Strong sense of personal responsibility.
- Commitment to doing quality work while putting safety first.
Minimum Requirements
- Must have 8,000 hours experience in the occupation and/or is currently qualified in the position of Journeyman Lineman.
- Must have or obtain a valid driver’s license and an acceptable driving record.
- Must have or obtain a Class "A" Commercial Driver's License with required endorsements.
- Must have mechanical aptitude, good math skills, and the ability to learn.
- Must have knowledge of the materials, tools, and equipment to be used.
- Must have knowledge of various transformer banks, intellirupters, capacitor banks and other voltage regulating equipment.
- Must know the occupational hazards and proper safety precautions.
- Must be physically able to lift heavy objects.
- Must be willing to work in adverse weather conditions.
- Regularly exposed to mechanical parts, highly precarious places, outside weather conditions, and risk of electrical shock. Frequently exposed to vibration
- Pass pre-employment, random, post-accident, and reasonable suspicion drug screens.
- Satisfactory results of pre-employment background check results.

Due to the nature and scope of the essential functions, the importance of personal interactions with coworkers and members of the public, and the availability of job-related tools, equipment and resources at work, performance of the essential functions requires regular, consistent availability, accessibility, and presence on-site.
A minimum of 40 hours/week may be required to efficiently perform the job duties of this position, including presence at designated internal and external meetings. This position may also require availability and accessibility to respond to and address emergencies and critical situations outside of regular business operating hours in the evenings and/or during weekends.
Environmental & Physical Conditions
The work environment conditions described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this position. This position works primarily in the field and is exposed to all types of weather conditions including temperature extremes and rainy environments. The outdoor setting involves all kinds of property and site conditions, including open spaces, timberlands, urban developments, flat and hilly terrain, building construction sites, and road rights. Subject to outside weather/driving conditions.
