Position Summary:
Perform vision tests and analyze results. Diagnose sight problems, such as nearsightedness or farsightedness and eye diseases, such as glaucoma. Prescribe eyeglasses and medications.
Essential duties and Responsibilities:

- Perform standard eye exams for patients on a daily basis, meeting productivity goals.
- Check for evidence of disease, injury, or other problems impacting vision.
- Provide prescriptions for corrective lenses as needed.
- Listen to and address patient’s questions and concerns.
- Educate patients regarding the eye care and vision correction options.
- Analyze results from all tests conducted and share results with patients.
- Prescribe medications when needed.
- Utilize all necessary equipment properly, ensuring it is in good working order and communicating potential issues to management.
- Coordinate with the rest of the staff as needed to meet patient’s’ needs.
- Check prescription and fit of corrective lenses.
- Record all tests, prescriptions, and treatments in the E H R.
- Participate in staff development and training.
- Refer patients to trusted specialists (ophthalmologist) as needed.
Work under general supervision: routine duties are performed with minimal supervision; standard practices and procedures are followed to proceed alone at routine work; occasional check of work while in progress; work is reviewed upon completion. All activities involving changes in procedures, policies, or additional cost will be proposed to the administrative team for consideration.
Qualifications
- Doctor of Optometry (O.D.) required from an accredited educational institution
- Current state optometry license, valid and in good standing
- Minimum two years experience working as a practicing optometrist
- Solid working knowledge of all ophthalmic equipment needed to conduct examinations
- Current medical knowledge of testing and treatments for eye injuries and diseases
- Continued commitment to remaining up to date on the latest research and techniques
