What are the responsibilities and job description for the Practicum Application TY 25-26 position at Centered Therapy Chicago PLLC?
Centered Therapy Chicago (CTC), is a female owned group private practice in the Ravenswood/Andersonville neighborhood of Chicago. We view clients from a holistic perspective and take a mind/body/spirit approach to our work. We utilize a feminist, relational, strength-based, collaborative approach in our work. We offer a range of evidence-based practices and integrate mindfulness, meditation, movement, creative/expressive therapies, and somatic approaches as needed.

We provide:

- A supportive environment that takes care of the operational and business aspects of our clinical work so that the clinician can focus on clinical skills
- Comprehensive orientation schedule in July to support students in onboarding and orienting to private practice and ongoing administrative support throughout the training year
- Intake coordination
- Abundant and intentional referrals with attention to promoting client assignments that are a good fit between therapist and client and for student's developmental needs
- Billing support which includes insurance billing, coordination of benefits/eligibility, and claims submission
- Marketing support
- Beautifully decorated and comfortable office space as well as an office with a common area for therapists to gather and connect
Centered Therapy Chicago is seeking the following:
- Advanced (4th year) practicum students
- We are also open to considering candidates with the following experience:
- Intermediate (3rd year) students with experience providing therapy
- Students seeking an additional training year who have experience providing therapy

Training Program Requirements:
- We do on-site training and clinical work
- Expected to be on-site 3-4 days per week
- Wednesdays is a required training day
- Evenings and Saturday are required for clinical
- Clinical work is provided primarily in person, with training and support for a small telehealth caseload
- This an 11-month practicum (July 16, 2025 - June 26, 2026)
- Schedule a caseload of a minimum of 13 clients per week
- Training week is 20-24 hours, which includes clinical work, administrative time, training and supervision
- 6-8 training days off, dependent on trainee schedule
- Additional time off includes 12/22/25-12/28/25 for holiday and Federal Holidays including New Years Day, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, and Thanksgiving Day
Training Program Highlights:
- We use a cloud-based software for client records, scheduling and documentation
- Cases may include individual, couples, families, and 1-2 children based on individual student interests and client availability; please note that we are not a child or couples focused site
- We serve clients across the lifespan, including clients as young as 3 years old and clients 60
- We support clients from diverse backgrounds (race, religion, spirituality, gender, sexuality, ethnicity and other intersecting identities)
- All of our clients are predominantly English-speaking
- We work with a wide variety of presenting concerns, which include anxiety, relationship concerns, and trauma (please see our website for more information)
- Join staff and participate in CTC sponsored community outreaches and/or trainings during the training year
- Opportunity to participate in and write a blog post/article for the practice newsletter on a topic you are passionate about
- Learn how to work in/build a private practice including billing, insurance, networking, and marketing
- Refine your therapeutic interests and clinical skills in a supportive and collaborative environment
- Self-care and trauma stewardship are encouraged and reinforced in the practice and training our students
- Experience supervision and therapeutic work from a holistic, trauma-informed, feminist-relational lens
- Develop a Year Long Project that is relevant to professional goals/interests and working in a private practice setting
Ideal Applicants to Our Program:
The ideal candidate is interested in developing their ability to connect to themselves and their clients. They must have an interest in practicing trauma- informed, relational, and feminist psychotherapy. They must be open to receiving and implementing feedback received during supervision. They must have strong professional comportment and have a desire to participate in CTC community building activities for staff. Ideally, applicants would like to engage in outreach and professional development activities and learn skills and best practices related to networking and building a private practice.
Supervision Philosophy:
We provide developmental, relational, strength-based supervision at CTC. As supervisors, we all have something to learn and to teach and we are all growing in our own personal and professional development alongside those we supervise. Supervision is grounded in goals and intentions of the supervisee with a strong emphasis on case conceptualization, relationship development, intentional interventions, and exploration of transference/countertransference.
We are incredibly proud to announce that we have welcomed back former practicum students as Post-Doctoral, full-time, and part-time clinicians after completing their APA-accredited internships. Our former practicum students have went on to complete their internships at Alexian Brothers Behavioral Health Hospital, California State University Long Beach Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS), Indiana University Student Counseling Center, Louisiana State University Health Services Center School of Medicine (Department of Psychiatry, Section of Psychology), MiraCare, Primary Care Psychology Associates LLC, The Village of Hoffman Estates Department of Health and Human Services, and University of Rochester University Counseling Center (UCC).
