Position: Critical Facility Technician (CFT) - Night
Location: Centeris Data Center – Puyallup, WA
Shift Coverage: Night Shift, 3 nights on shift with 4 nights off followed by 4 nights on shift with 3 nights off. Each workday is 12 hours.
Scope of Responsibilities: Perform journey-level maintenance duties to operate and maintain a first-class data center. You must have the ability to work both independently and as part of a team, work safely in your environment, be self-motivated, and learn quickly. This position requires a strong understanding and hands-on working experience with electrical, mechanical, fire detection and suppression systems, and other building trades. You must possess working knowledge of data center-specific systems such as network connectivity, building management, power monitoring, and computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS).
Co-location customer interactions will require excellent customer service skills with “smart hands” service on their computing and network equipment. Under the direction of the Critical Facility Manager (CFM), the Critical Facility Technician will strive to meet the needs of management and the data center operational requirements in a prompt, courteous, and professional manner.
Operational Responsibilities:
- Provide hands-on operation of site facilities equipment and processes in accordance with procedures and policies.
- Collect data and perform rounds and system readings.
- Perform skilled preventive maintenance and make repairs on site facilities equipment in accordance with procedures and policies, commensurate with knowledge, skills, and training.
- Monitor contractors and vendors for procedural, safety, environmental, and risk mitigation process compliance with established procedures/policies/laws.
- Issue “stop work” orders to contractors and vendors who may be placing the data center and its infrastructure at risk.
- Provide training (within their and your expertise) to other CFTs.
- Provide technical expertise and assistance as required. CFTs are expected to be subject matter experts in at least one or more infrastructure systems.
- Respond to unforeseen emergencies at the site as required.
- Provide remote smart hands for customers as requested.
- Available for overtime when required.
- Must wear company-provided uniform.
- Clean areas as assigned.
Position Objectives:
- Operate site infrastructure equipment and systems without error to achieve maximum uptime.
- Complete assigned preventive maintenance and repair maintenance according to procedures and approved schedules.
- Provide suggestions to the team and management for continuous improvements in process improvement, system operations, and cost reduction.
- Communicate effectively and provide team and management with information for effective risk mitigation, safe operations, shift coordination, and teambuilding.
Required Skills:
- Strong practical and application of skills and knowledge on site facilities infrastructure.
- Customer relationship building.
- Technical understanding of facility infrastructure systems and the ability to communicate this understanding to peers, management, customers, and vendors.
- Understanding the reason for and implementation of risk mitigation processes.
- Troubleshooting skills to resolve or identify an equipment issue or failure.
- Ability to use Microsoft Office suite of software for day-to-day communications.
Desired Skills:
- Experience with AutoCAD or equivalent specialized facility management software and CMMS.
- Process and procedure development.
- Successful completion of a data center facilities operations training course.
- Served as an apprentice in one or more of the building trades.
- Received military equivalent training in building/ship systems infrastructure and operational readiness.
Minimum Qualifications:
- 3 years of experience in mission-critical environments.
- Legal authorization to work in the US and a valid driver's license.
Preferred Qualifications:
- 5 years or more experience in mission-critical environments.
- 3 years of training experience (on the job or classroom).
- Journeyman status in a building trade.
